Can I freeze tofu?

Tofu that's already been prepared?

There's a health food store that makes the BEST merinaded tofu for salads, but it's 10 miles away from work, so it's hard for me to justify driving all the way down there on my lunch break (not to mention it takes a ton of time) for a salad.

Can I buy the stuff (which they sell independently as well) and freeze it and then make my own salads?

1. I would say yes.

long ago when I first started using tofu, I used to freeze it then thaw it before doing anything with it, it supposedly helped make tofu firmer so it would stay together better when cooking.

To answer your question, I went to veganchef.com and looked at her recipe for italian sausage tempeh - I couldn't remember if it was tempeh or tofu - and verified that that recipe can be frozen.

Tempeh is essentially just fermented tofu, so that would be much like prepared-in-some-other manner tofu, so I don't see why you couldn't buy marinaed tofu and freeze it as well.

But just to be certain, you might ask the place that sells what you are thinking of buying.
