Keep assault rifles away from wildlife in National Parks

Coburn Rider Puts Park Visitors and Wildlife at Risk

A dangerous and misguided rider has been attached to the Credit Cardholders’ Bill of Rights Act of 2009 (H.R.627)‬‪‪‬. With this rider, the National Park Service would be forced to allow loaded guns in parks, battlefields, historic sites and monuments after decades of requiring guns to be unloaded and stored when traveling through these national treasures.

The rider was sponsored by Senator Coburn (R-OK) and would allow individuals to openly carry assault rifles, shotguns, and semi-automatic weapons in national parks if the firearm is in compliance with state law. As a result, individuals could attend ranger-led hikes and campfire programs carrying loaded firearms at Yellowstone National Park, Shenandoah National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, and many other national park units across the country. Allowing loaded guns in parks poses a threat to wildlife, park visitors, and puts our already over-burdened park rangers at even greater risk.

Within the next week, the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives could be voting on this bill. We must let them know now that the Coburn rider puts park visitors and wildlife at risk. Contact your Members of Congress TODAY and tell them to keep the current regulations in place. Take action now!

1. How many people openly carry rifles and shotguns in your local shopping mall now?
I'll bet you haven't seen even one.

The proposed change in the law would simply make the same rules apply in NPs as in areas of your state that are not in an NP.

...which forum it was in.

I apologize for the inappropriate post. But please be aware that not everyone who carries a weapon for self-defense is a poacher.
