I just ordered Teese...
Hi guys!

We're embarking on a transition. Not sure where we'll end up, but we're going to try and find a balance between our veg/vegan intake and our omni intake. It's a start. (I'm married to a hardcore carnivore, so this is *progress*!!)

Wish us luck! ;)

Also, I'm looking into the 100 mile diet. Unfortunately, a lot of the Farmer's Markets in E. MA don't start until July, which to me is insane, as the ones in W. MA start in April. I'm going to work on it though.

:hi:

1. Welcome!
bi_baby and sniffa. Two of my favorite folks here. I'm glad you came to the tofu ghetto for a visit.

Wherever you end up is all good. "Balance" is a good word. Progress is what it is. To ask or expect you folks, or ANY folks to go vegan in a weekend, really, is just plain stupid.

Every bite counts. Just remember that. Hope you'll stick around with us.

2. I read this group daily, and always check the recipes...
Frankly, I'm content with being Veg or at least mostly so all the time. I just happen to live with a carnivore. But, he's open to change! We watched the "Meet your Meat" video together last night, and...it had quite an effect on both of us. I've seen similar vids before, but that was..a lot to process.

So yeah, we're going to try and make some changes. And here we are. :)

6. Welcome and congrats on your great experiment.
I'm fascinated to hear that the Meet Your Meat video had such a strong impact on you, and I applaud your decision to watch it.

9. I've never actually watched it. The idea scares me to death.
I knew some slaughterhouse workers in Iowa, one of whom was so traumatized by the process that he quit. Decided to pick veggies, detassle and bus tables rather than work in an abattoir. So, I don't really want to know the details. You're braver than me.

3. Howdy, ma'am.
Looks like we've got a regular masshole convention going on here. My most recent MA address was a bit north of you--Moved back to Seattle from Peabody about 3 years ago, but I'm originally from Malden/Melrose. (And I'm homesick these days!)

Good luck with the direction you're moving in. I found it pretty hard to be vegan in MA. It's funny--the resources are there, but it's just so completely not part of the culture that it was always a struggle. One thing that does help is finding a good produce supplier. I found that 'ethnic' groceries are far, far cheaper and offer a wider selection of fruits, vegetables, and even staples like beans, rice, sauces, local baked goods, and oils. Out here, my regular markets are a Mexican grocery and an Asian grocery--you might think about looking for a reliable small market along those lines.

Let us know how it's going, and don't hesitate to ask questions. We're mostly pretty non-judgmental (I think) and there are lots of folks with good ideas here.

5. hey I did too!
I didn't know what it was, so thanks!
My husband eats meat but he's been a good sport about me not doing it, he doesn't eat much of it himself now.

We're very welcoming in this group, I sure got it good!
