Seventh Generation paper towels= not vegan
Edited on Sat Feb-23-08 09:22 PM by LeftyMom
Yeah, I know, what the hell would be in paper towels? For some assbrained reason they make them with whey (thanks to the good folks at Food Fight vegan grocery for finding out and letting the community know.) Anyhow, if you're looking for a critter-free, non-chlorine bleached, recycled paper towel for those really nasty messes that you don't want to use a kitchen towel for, Natural Value confirms that theirs are indeed vegan.

Of course, Seventh Generation is also a donor to Heifer Project (see my journal for why that's problematic) and sells "disposable" diapers, so we already knew they were pretty damned lame. But whey in the paper towels is kinda out of left field.

1. I use the Publix Greenwise recycled paper products.
Publix = Florida grocer. Gonna have to ask if they have any goofy shit in their stuff.

Can't say much about their sponsorship. I mean, they do sell veal, etc in their stores.

2. I should call Trader Joes and ask who supplies thiers (if they'll say)
I can get the Natural Value ones at the food co-op, and they're local (Natural Value, I mean, they're based out of Sacto,) so I'll just do that for now.

3. We recently had a long discussion of the problems with Heifer Project
on the christianveg list. Getting churches to stop supporting them is an ongoing struggle.

Thanks for the info about Seventh Generation. It never occurred to me to think about animal ingredients in paper products. What next?!

4. I've heard it all
Geesh, you think you're doing something good by buying recycled, non-bleached paper products...

Thanks for the heads-up. :hi:
