Imagine a White House where they serve Tofurky on Thanksgiving
E-Alert

Date: 11/21/2007 Issue: November 2007

Happy Thanksgiving for ALL

Imagine a White House where they serve Tofurky on Thanksgiving. It's a dream that seemed possible at Animal Acres this past weekend when Presidential Candidate Dennis Kucinich joined with Actresses Shelley Morrison, Mariana Tosca, and 300 other friends of farmed animals for our special Thanksgiving event.

The sold-out "Thankful Turkeys" celebration began at 12 noon with shelter tours, where guests had an opportunity to meet over 100 rescued cows, pigs, chickens, sheep, goats, and of course, the guests of honor at this time of year, the sanctuary turkeys!

Dennis Kucinich and our other special guests then joined with Animal Acres President Lorri Bauston to feed the turkeys cranberries, pumpkin pie, and stuffed squash. Click here for a short video presentation of the "feeding the turkeys" ceremony.

Kucinich addressed the participants, acknowledging the work of Animal Acres and other organizations working for the rescue and protection of farm animals. Actress Shelley Morrison presented Kucinich with a Tree of Compassion Award for his outstanding service and commitment to promoting compassion for all beings. In honor of Animal Acres supporter Daryl Hannah, all of the awards presented by Animal Acres are living trees, which are planted at our sanctuary to provide shade and habitat for animals.

After our special guest presentation, everyone gathered in the courtyard rose garden for an incredible holiday feast catered by One World Vegetarian Cuisine. The menu included their special One World vegetarian "turkey" and stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, harvest vegetables, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. Thank you One World!

Animal Acres hosts its annual holiday event to educate people about the plight of animals used in food production. The unique holiday celebration was covered by Los Angeles area media, including a full-page feature article in The Signal (click here to read the full article). Nationally renowned investigative journalist Jane Velez-Mitchell concluded the event, encouraging all participants to get active in the current California ballot initiative campaign to ban cruel cages used for egg, pork, and veal production.

On behalf of ALL of us at Animal Acres, a very special THANK YOU to...

Our dedicated volunteers who worked throughout the day to make the event possible.
Our special guests who lent their voices for farm animals and educated millions more.
All of YOU for joining with your sanctuary "family" during the holidays to spread our message of compassion for ALL.

Animal Acres is a Los Angeles farmed animal sanctuary and compassionate living center directed by Farm Sanctuary co-founder Lorri Bauston. Thank you for your support.

1. Great "endorsement"!!
501c3 orgs can't really give political endorsements, but this is a great way to "nudge" folks to consider their political choice in the coming months.

Imagine Dennis in the White House on turkey pardoning day, or whatever it's called...
