Operation Ragnarok
BTW, this is probably my favorite single webpage right now:

http://www.seashepherd.org/ragnarok/photo_gallery.html

That said, check out Sea Shepherd's defense of the whales from Icelandic "scientific" whaling operations.

Okay...I just can't resist...

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

1. What a great organization.....
...always on top of the ball....

They didn't waste a minute reacting to Iceland's actions.

p.s. as a side note of personal interest, from the article, this made my heart warm, "We are calling this campaign Operation Ragnarök. This is an old Nordic word that means "doom or destruction of the powers."

The Vikings mascot is Ragnar! :-) :toast:

2. Actually, the use of Ragnarök might confuse Icelanders.
According to the Norse religion, the Ragnarök is not a battle of good versus evil, but instead a period of mass chaos in which the Gods engage in a bloody battle whose outcome is predetermined. It does indeed mean "destruction of powers," but that includes all powers, be they good or evil. Unlike Christianity, Norse eschatology is devoid of hope or the knowledge that good will triumph and the new world will be a better place.

I think it's a great plan on Sea Shepherd's part, but the name kind of made me chuckle. :D

By the way, this is funny, because in the "Vegan Baby Killers" thread yesterday, someone called me out on my username, claiming that as someone with a Nordic username, surely I should be open to the idea that veganism causes diseases. :eyes:

4. Fenris, I saw that post
I thought it to be odd, myself.

Thanks for the info on the Ragnarok name. I didn't know that.

3. I'm really disappointed in Iceland.
They are so progressive in many other ways: gender equality (many women in leadership in government and business) and gay rights (civil unions since 1996), women keep their names after marriage (or rather, they use patronyms or matronyms). Okay, they eat some god awful food like that fermented shark and sheep face (hey, I'm Swedish - I can take potshots at my fellow Nordic relations), but I always thought they were good folk. Their decision to resume whaling is terrible, and I applaud Sea Shepherd's efforts here.
