Trying to be a Vegetarian - Doing pretty good.
I'm still eating fish, eggs, milk, cheese.

So far I've done pretty good. If I eat fish I don't seem to miss other meats at all. But I'm hoping to drop even the fish here pretty soon.

Lots of fresh fruit available in Kansas City right now - people are even selling stuff out on the street corners. It's great.

1. How excellent!
It's a series of steps for anyone to get where they want to be. Congrats to you on your decision.

I'd love to have the street corner produce vendors here. However, what with the way folks drive around here, it wouldn't last long.

3. Yea. I feel really good about this.
I've kind of messed up a couple of times - but it was when I was at someone elses house and the food was already prepared.

On my own I do good.

I don't think I could make it without cheese.

I eat dairy also. But as much as I try, I still can't seem to ditch the fish.

4. My system really needs protein. I really need more than just
veges and fruit to keep going. My blood sugar drops out.

5. Soy has protein. CLif Builder's Bars are perfect.

When on the go, I eat Clif Builder's Bars. A local supermarket is always having them on sale for 10 for 10 bucks. They taste pretty good. Cookies and Cream, Peanut Butter and Chocolate. 20 grams of Soy Protein and 200+ calories. on edit: and vegan.

10. You can get plenty of protein without fish/fowl/meat
Without even trying I get anywhere from 55-102 grams of protein a day and haven't consumed meat/fish/fowl in a year and a half. There are even days I only have trace amounts of dairy/eggs and still exceed the RDA of protein.


Soy is an excellent source of protein and comes in an amazing variety of products. Nuts, seeds, beans, lentils, etc are also great sources of protein and versatile food products.

Here is a helpful chart that lists the protein content of a variety of foods.

6. That's great. You can definitely do this.
Be sure to post down here if you run into any obstacles or need advice and encouragement. We were all new veggies sometimes, and a lot of us took different approaches to taking our diet from where it was to where we wanted it to be, so surely somebody will have a bit of wisdom to help, should you need it. :)

7. Thank you so much.
My biggest problem is that I don't cook. If I could just cook my own meals I would be fine. But I hate to cook.

So I just kind of go from meal to meal. I also really need to lose 30 pounds and I'm hoping this will get me on my way.

The only real bvegetarian thing I can find in restaurants here in KC - steak capital of the world - seems to be cheese and onion enchiladas with rice and beans. But I like that.

I can also get sushi at HyVee and I love that.

I am not much on vegetables except for squash and other non-green stuff. I am kind of allergic to "green."

Ate a half a watermelon yesterday - that really filled me up.
