2. may I ask where you live?
Edited on Tue Feb-19-08 10:54 PM by Mezzo
or, do you want to talk about it? I'm pretty poor too, for whatever that's worth. Maybe posting about it would help?

*on edit, I am not sure how I wound up in this forum, so it must be fate, or at least I kinda hope it is

4. Stop beating yourself
You did not create the capitalist economy that has winners and losers. You are not the only one in your predicament. Stop listening to, or talking to, people who are trying to make you feel like you are. Put you first and don't worry about the rest. Force yourself to have some fun every day, even if it's just imagining bunny clouds or painting your nails or shooting some hoops. Money isn't the only measure of success. Hang in there!

6. try to hold on even if just for an hour at a time-somehow things work out
I resorted to selling almonds on the side of the road in the freezing cold last month-made a whopping $7 one day and maybe $10 the next, but it was just enough to keep my power on, also had a few DU sales which totally were just in the nick of time.

Do you have anything you can sell on craigslist? or on the DU marketplace? no charge for listing things there

have you looked into having your utilities (power) covered by Salvation Army or whatever organization does that in your neck of the woods

somehow I am surviving on just a few hundred a month (just enough for utitlities) and food stamps until I get out of this former meth lab house and can get a roommate to help w/expenses

having raised my child sans child support I learned how to make it through the good and lean times

it will get better

keep us posted

Husband ate them all in a day and a half. Got any more where those came from?

11. We're here, we listen, and we care. A lot of us are in your shoes
or worse. Food banks have been my saving grace. check into churches in your area. Many have food banks and will help with rent, utilities, etc.

12. Have you found help from churches? In most areas, churches don't even *speak* to poor
people who come to their door.

If you find churches help where you are, then let them know it is appreciated, because it is very rare.

13. The ethnic Catholic churches have food banks
Edited on Wed Mar-05-08 07:26 PM by undeterred
and there is another one that I know of. I actually still have a lot of oatmeal packets from the last time I went through a rough patch. I have barely too high an income to qualify for most aid, but not enough money to get caught up with the bills. My current job ends Friday. I just need a decent job right away.

Thanks to everyone for your kind words and support.

I'm new here, are you unemployed? Have you thought about reducing your monthly debt? Maybe giving up your internet service for a few months? Just thinking?

The only way to find a job is online. I am studying for a certification which should bring me a higher rate.
