Abortion rates drop worldwide - but conservatives need to read why
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20071012/hl_nm/women_dc

The article says that they've dropped mostly due to 1) more access to, and use of, birth control, and 2) in places where abortion is LEGAL. So the Republican's strategy of trying to make abortion illegal, as well as stopping the sending of birth control to third-world countries, is counterproductive on both counts.

And by the way, as a friend of mine used to say, 'pro-life' people are really only 'pro-birth', because they don't want to adopt, feed, house, or school kids afterwards, they just want them to be born.

1. I refer to them as woman-hating anti-choicers, to underscore what they are really about.

3. I've yet to understand
why I should be concerned about what a woman 1,000 miles away or more does with her body. Could they possibly have political motives? Do I need the sarcasm emotothingy?

7. They simply want to control coitus to where it's only for procreation
within a legal marriage they've defined as between a man and a woman. Anything variation would be verboten.

2. Your friend is right
Oh we love you as a fetus (because you are such a viable political tool as such) but after you are born, fuck ya.

They are so pro life that they have stopped keeping up with the casualty counts of Iraq registering the deaths of non-white non-christian Iraqi's. Aren't they the fucking gems of the planet?

4. Birth control plus sex education equals fewer unplanned pregnancies
Edited on Fri Oct-12-07 01:32 PM by rocknation
equals fewer abortions--and always has.

Though I have nothing against advocating against teen sex--they ought to be taught that it takes all the meaning out of being an adult.

Education is also not a conservative value. It is so sad in their dark world.

12. Thank gosh. Abortion is never the best answer. At least the numbers
reflect this. I wonder if this story will even make it to the freeper forums. I doubt it.

13. "Abortion is never the best answer"?
you're kidding, right?

sometimes it IS the "best answer".

no form of birth control is 100% effective. and pregnancy is not 100% risk-free, perfect infant guaranteed.

abortion will always be the "best answer" in some scenarios.

14. It is the answer of last resort. Free health clinics and free birth control
or the abortion pill are the best answers. Abortion is a tragedy. That is why I said what I said. For a woman's reproductive health, abortion is always the answer of last resort.

Sorry if I was not clear.

15. i do not think abortion is a "tragedy".
i think it is a healthcare procedure.

healthcare procedures should not be demonized.

sure, it is better to brush and floss twice a day, but getting a root canal because you didn't is not a "tragedy".

16. Certainly many women who have abortions feel it is a great loss. You cannot
deny that. We seem to not agree. Let's leave it at that.

17. in the Women's Rights group
i am afraid that i cannot "leave it at that". the right to reproductive health care is at the core of our rights. and continuing to demonize a health care procedure does not, in my opinion, support women's rights.

18. Distributing birth control reduces the number of abortions? Unbelievable!

Surely, no-one could possibly have predicted that making it easier to avoid getting pregnant unintentionally would reduce the demand for and supply of abortions.

I mean, it's completely illogical.

Everyone knows that the best way to reduce the number of abortions is not to teach young people anything about sex, because that way they'll never find out about it and won't indulge in it.

20. Let's hope they pay attention but you know they won't
The worst of the worst like to play this game:

I'll make your choices for you and I will make sure to choose the most difficult options for you to live with. And I sure as hell won't help you with the choices I've made for you.

Those who are truly pro-life are pro-the people who are arleady here. After SCHIP was vetoed, we all know where they stand.
