Pay Received by Stand-up Comics: Men Versus Women.
Have any studies been done on that matter? When they appear on TV, they get paid by the show that they appear on and that money comes from the advertisers (or donors and taxpayers in the case of public television). The advertisers pay based on the estimated ratings. It's rather complicated.

Is that occupation one with an under-representation of women? Some people try to encourage women to be candidates in elections to enter the occupation of politician. Should they also encourage women to try to become stand-up comics?

It seems that one doesn't have to wait for an election in order to become a stand-up comic, one doesn't have to do telemarketing to raise funds, etc. Stand-up comic seems to be a more accessible occupation.
