Ohio HB288 attempts to make ALL abortions illegal, & the morning after
Edited on Fri Apr-29-05 09:04 PM by mtnester
pill illegal as well. No exceptions for rape, incest, life of mother. It also states it will be illegal for an Ohio resident to cross out of state to get an abortion.

The final, telling end paragraph of the bill:

Sec. 5101.55. (A) On and after the effective date of this amendment, all abortions are prohibited in this state under sections 2919.12 and 2919.123 of the Revised Code.

The bill sets the date of this law, if passed, to take effect 10/29/05.

It attaches criminal and litigious offense to abortions, and anyone who facilitates, including a driver if they take you across state lines.

Here is the bill in its entirety:

What group, nationally, can we turn to on this?

5. No. The U.S. Constitution is controlling over any state law.
States' rights apply only where a state law does not violate the U.S. Constitution, and under Roe v. Wade, this statute does that, big time.

11. That's why they're passing this stupid law
They already know it's unconstitutional on a lot of grounds, especially the one about crossing the state line to get a legal medical procedure.

These filthy scumbags are looking for the glory of being the ones to challenge Roe and get it overturned.

6. This is what all red States will try to do.
If the Federal Government will not do what the State wants it will do it for themselves. This is classic Right Wing Repuke strategy, here come the Nazi's.

7. OH knows it's unconstitutional (now). It wants the law on the books for
the day that Roe is overturned. It saves time that way and hits the ground running. Plus, OH would be giddy with joy with THEIR law was the case that killed the federal right to get an abortion.

9. If you live in Ohio
Here is a link from NARAL pro-choice America to write your state rep. about this http://prochoiceaction.org/campaign/OH_RejectAbortionBan_SL_4_22_05

They have been following this closely and are a good group to sign up for e-mail updates from.
