Mice put in 'suspended animation'

By Paul Rincon
BBC News science reporter

Mice have been placed in a state of near suspended animation, raising the possibility that hibernation could one day be induced in humans.

If so, it might be possible to put astronauts into hibernation-like states for long-haul space flights - as often depicted in science fiction films.

A US team from Seattle reports its findings in Science magazine.

3. It was just a matter of time
At this point any even 'potentially' real or realistice science fiction has to be considered an eventual possability. One just needs to deduce how it will be done.

An orbital elevator will be realistic in the near future, in all likelyhood the 1000m asteroid that will be giving a close call to earth in 2029 will end up making for an ideal capture for making one.

The same is with Faster than Light Travel and Radio, we already know how to send a beam of light at a speed that is reputedly 4 times the speed of light. Really, it makes things less and less unlikely as we are already starting to see that even the laws of physics aren't quite as static as we onjce thought.

I am sure that if we can harness the children, our truly greatest resource, we will be capable of going so far and doing so much in our own lifetimes.

4. well
we know how to make wormholes more or less, it is just that the exotic matter and energy required to keep one open is wayyyyyyy beyond our abilities....right now.

Which means, one day, we will have wormholes zipping through like swiss cheese IMO.

Probably 2,345,234 A.D., but it's nearly inevitable I think.
