New Industrial Centers Discovered North of Jiroft, Iran

Archaeologists have discovered 85 sites of metal works and 15 ancient mines in the northern part of Jiroft and Laleh Zar and Hezar mountains, in Kerman province, classifying the area as an important industrial center of Ancient Iran.

Jiroft ancient sites, located on the riverside of Halil Roud, are one of the important archaeological sites of the world in which architectural remains and ancient artifacts have been discovered during three years of excavation.

85 sites of ancient metal works and 15 ancient mines of copper, iron, and lead have been identified in the area, explained head of the excavation team, Hussein Tofighian, making the experts believe that the northern part of Jiroft and Laleh Zar and Hezar mountains have been one of the important industrial centers of Ancient Iran...cont'd

...their exact historical era has not yet been determined.

During work in the northern areas of Jiroft, 145 other archaeological sites with remains from the third millennium BC up to the Islamic period have been discovered...

I'm reading Gods, Graves, and Scholars by C.W. Ceram right now.
