1. Around labor day, takes several months to calibrate the instrument for scientific observation.
Each instrument has its own optics and whatnot, and they just installed a boatload of them, so think of it as fine tuning a whole piano store of pianos. The instruments also have to work together in tandem on certain experiments, so that makes it even a bit more difficult.

They're not holding back, believe me, they want to show off what their "new Hubble" can do.
