Frustrating day for watching Inauguration in HD via Antenna
I brought in my HD TV to our office in downtown Seattle (Probably a mile and a half away from the TV towers, but blocked by a high rise) and could only get the HD broadcast on the PBS Channel (9.1), but couldn't get a good signal on the other networks. The analog signal, the thing that is going away, came in OK, but of course not in HD. Frustrating how the "new thing" came in so poorly while the 70 year old technology came in fine. Seems like with HD via antenna, you basically have to have a line of sight signal to the tower, otherwise you don't get very good reception. The analog signal will bounce (causing shadows), but will still work.

(Same HDTV via Antenna works fine from my home which has a line of sight signal with the towers)

The new tech (HDTV) will be broadcasting at Full Power when the switch is made. Right now most are broadcasting at reduced strenght.

5. Very cool, I was wondering why I couldn't pick up 4 channels here when in the other room...
...I can get all of the HD channels in my area.

2. With HD, you either have a picture or you don't. I'll take HD over analog any day though.
I have had HDtv for years now and get it quite well and for free over the air with antennas. I just used one of my coupons to get a converter box for my old 19" tv in the bedroom and the picture is perfect and I get twice as many channels as I got with analog. With the coupon the box only cost me $10 and its remote controls the volume and zooms the picture and it even has a program guide.
