Family Walks on All Fours, May Offer Evolution Insight
The origins of the GOP?

Family Walks on All Fours, May Offer Evolution Insight, Experts Say

James Owen in London for National Geographic News

March 8, 2006
Five adult siblings who can walk only on all fours have been found in Turkey, researchers say. These human quadrupeds may provide clues to how humans evolved to stand on two feet.

The three sisters and two brothers may offer insight into the way our apelike ancestors moved, according to scientists. Human ancestors are believed to have begun walking on two legs more than three million years ago.

Discovered in a remote area of southern Turkey last summer, the family of ethnic Kurds has sparked a scientific debate, which will be covered in a BBC television documentary that is set to air on March 17 in the United Kingdom. The family's exact location and last name have not been disclosed.

Born with a genetic brain abnormality, two of the sisters and one of the brothers are thought to have only walked on all fours their entire lives. The two other siblings can walk upright for short distances...cont'd

4. No, not all the markers are there
1. It looks like these people breathe with their mouths closed
2. It doesn't look like they are using their knuckles to walk

2. some think its a random gene popping up from way the hell back
in time. they are all impaired mentally in some way. maybe its a bad combo, this throwback gene, between their body and brain. they are amazing, aren't they?

3. Is it just me, or does something seem weird about this?
And that picture? It just doesn't look right to me. That method of transport doesn't really look natural for those folks.

7. That's because it isn't.
These people have a brain abnormality that doesn't allow them to walk upright, however their body is no different then ours. If it was true evolutionary step back, their bodies would be different. They wouldn't have the tools necessary to walk upright, even if their brain did work correctly.

5. If this is their normal way of walking...
Edited on Thu Mar-09-06 07:13 PM by Juniperx
Why are there only shoes on their feet? And why are their bodies otherwise normal? Wouldn't the head and neck be positioned slightly different?

I dunno. I'm asking.

9. Know those metal fishes on cars?
Well, I saw a really good one to counter that the other day. It was a dinosaur and inside of it was written, "DARWIN".

Says it all.

10. I saw a video clip on the news of this tonight

Showed them walking on all fours.

Showed the women walking that way indoors, the man doing it outside. If you saw him in the video, he looked more natural doing it, I think that was because his arms are longer... the women's shorter arms make it look far more uncomfortable for them.

Either way it sure is strange. The photograph above, with the beach (is it a beach?) in the background, just looks bizarre.

Looks like a Pink Floyd album cover.
