InDepth Krugman Essay on Social Security
Confusions about Social Security

There is a lot of confusion in the debate over Social Security privatization, much of it deliberate. This essay discusses the meaning of the trust fund, which privatizers declare either real or fictional at their convenience; the likely rate of return on private accounts, which has been greatly overstated; and the (ir)relevance of putative reductions in far future liabilities.

4. Thank you for posting this link.
I will pass this along to everyone I can think of. Krugman is excellent. He explains thing so well in layman's terms. I've seen him occasionally on different shows. I wish there was a way to get him on more often. His take on why more economists haven't come forward to speak about *&Co is interesting, though not surprising. Thanks again for the link.
