Sect sues, asks equal space for 'Aphorisms'
Sect sues, asks equal space for 'Aphorisms'
The Salt Lake Tribune, USA
Aug. 3, 2005

Followers of the Summum faith say Moses made two trips down from the mountain. On one journey, the prophet returned with the Ten Commandments, "lower laws" that were easily understood and widely distributed.

The higher law obtained from the other trip, though, was passed down only to a select few who were able to appreciate it, according to the Salt Lake City-based religion.

But now, Summum is fighting a legal battle to share that higher law - the Seven Aphorisms, or principles that underlie creation and nature - with everyone in a public forum. The church has filed suit against Pleasant Grove over its refusal to allow it to erect its own monument in a city park that has held a Ten Commandments monolith since 1971.

In the lawsuit, Summum alleges the denial of its request to put up the Seven Aphorisms in the park at 100 North and 100 East counters previous rulings.

1. Let's look at what those are.....
Seven Summum Principles

I. The Principle of Psychokinesis
4 "SUMMUM is MIND, thought; the universe is a mental creation." -- Summum

II. The Principle of Correspondence
7 "As above, so below; as below, so above." -- Summum

III. The Principle of Vibration
9 "Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates." -- Summum

IV. The Principle of Opposition
11 "Everything is dual; everything has an opposing point; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes bond; all truths are but partial truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled." -- Summum

V. The Principle of Rhythm
15 "Everything flows out and in; everything has its season; all things rise and fall; the pendulum swing expresses itself in everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates." -- Summum

VI. The Principle of Cause and Effect
17 "Every cause has its effect; every effect has its cause; everything happens according to Law; Chance is just a name for Law not recognized; there are many fields of causation, but nothing escapes the Law of Destiny." -- Summum

VII. The Principle of Gender
20 "Gender is in everything; everything has its masculine and feminine principles; Gender manifests on all levels." -- Summum

...These make perfect sense to me. If these higher laws were obtained from the other trip Moses made and was passed down only to a select few who were able to appreciate it, do you think that Jesus was one of those select few who was also given these higher laws? It seems to fit with Jesus' teachings in the New Testement.

2. I hope they prevail...
I really hope they are successful. If we're going to display the Ten Commandments in public spaces, then we should also display other "holy" displays. Every time I get anything about how horrible us liberals are because we won't let the Ten Commandments be displayed this place or the other, I just respond with "go for it" as long as the Buddhists, the Hindu, the Taoist, the Muslims, etc. are all allowed in as well. It usually shuts them up really fast because that's not what they want at all.

This is the most logical response to allowing religion, any religion, in public spaces. All religions must be represented or we are not honoring our Constitution. Seems pretty straight forward to me.
