Second-hand store research - picked up 5 different "Christian" Bibles
and guess what?

There were four differently worded versions of the ten commandments (Exodus 20).

I believe that there were four. I glanced at them, and it seemed that MAYBE two matched. There might be five differently worded versions.

And that was just the First commandment.

Makes you think, eh?

And these were not the "Jehovah's Witnesses", Mormon, Jewish versions. No. These just said that they were The Bible. Not even listed as the King James, nor the Roman Catholic versions.

So, which one is "THE TRUE BIBLE?"

Dilemma . . .

3. Why so?
I think if you are suffering from a 'dilemma' you're being a bit rigid. The bible is a book that has been past down orally from generation to generation. if you read it in English it must have been translated at least 4 times. So I think it's pretty safe to say that it has been completely mangled by the time in arrives to an English reader. I guess for those who desire it chiseled in stone. the vast amount of differences sorta teaches you 'it's not written in stone'. if it were we'd all need to know Hebrew or Latin.

5. Not true with all versions
I believe it's the New English Bible that is translated only from Hebrew and Greek sources. So the 10 C's will have been translated once or twice only. I'm not 100% sure that it is that version, but I think it is.

But you are right, depending on the version, it has definitely been translated at LEAST once or twice. Sometimes 4 or 5. This isn't the Qu'ran here. And there are different translations, even paraphrases. However, they (mostly) all give the same message. Whether a Gospel verse says "The Twelve did travel across the lake by boat" or "Jesus' disciples rowed to the other side of the lake", they both mean the same thing.

Oh, by the way, the NT was written in Greek, not Latin. Sorry to be nit-picky here, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist. And I don't know if I've been here long enough to say this, but I'll give it a shot anyway:

6. Bible Editing
Keep in mind that the Bible has been editorial review for almost 2000 years, whenever the politics required the text change a book of the Bible was added or remove. Hell Revelations was added to make the peasants fear for their souls and give more money to the church to buy there way into Gods good graces.
