CDC Vaccine Fraud 2 Millon Dollars ~ Politicol News
Edited on Tue Jan-18-11 08:41 PM by mzmolly
The man who was a force for the CDC and vigorously disputed the fact of autism and its causes were linked to vaccines has disappeared.

This man not only left the building -he took 2 million dollars with him committing not only fraud but theft which is a felony. This man, Dr. Paul Thorsen took the 2 million dollars that was supposed to be spent on the research to prove that autism was not caused by mercury.

Obviously Dr. Thorsen had the credentials, the professionalism that we expect from the Center for Disease Control that our taxpaying dollars are not going to crooks. However in this case that is exactly what happened.

The CDC relied on Thorsen to prove that vaccines do not cause autism which he http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa021134">failed to prove. The CDC relied on Dr. Thorsen to prove that the MMR vaccine were not hurting children which he did not prove. In the year 2003 Dr. Thorsen along with his research group in Denmark stated that the mercury in vaccines could not be responsible for autism cases since they rose 20 times more in a country that banned mercury.

It turns out that the good Dr. Thorsen failed to report that during that study a new mandated reporting system was implemented that resulted in a higher reporting of autism cases. Not because there was a increase but because autism cases prior to that time period - were never reported.

Now the media latched onto this report and blasted all parents who blamed their children’s disabilities on vaccines and even the New York Times relied on Dr. Thorsen’s study which was skewed and basically inaccurate and unscientific as well as basically a lie.

The boner of this story is that Dr. Poul Thorsen is a psychiatrist -he has no qualifications whatsoever in Toxicology and he is not a research scientist that used quantitative analysis for his study. Basically it is junk science and the CDC promoted this as truth and lauded this man for his opinions.

...

It is all over the news but its buried under more than enough coverage of Sarah Palin and her book deal, more Sarah Palin and her reality show and alot of tripe you hear on CNN each day. More over the media hides stories like this because no one wants to really hear them.

3. Now why did I know it was you without looking?
"Failed to prove." Well if you want to use a strict (absolute) definition for "proof" then yes you are correct. However, the conclusion was: "This study provides strong evidence against the hypothesis that MMR vaccination causes autism." (my emphasis)

Prooving a negative is a very nearly impossible task.

Proving the positive (if it IS provable at all) is very much a cakewalk by comparison. So good gracious MzMolly, why has no one managed to show a single definitive positive link in twenty years and more? Despite, the hundreds of people DESPERATELY searching for that link.

Why is it that the person (Andrew Wakefield) who started this ball rolling, has now been very credibly accused of scientific fraud, malpractice and one that's always extra good for really pissing people off: Unecessary human experimention on children? Why is it OK for HIM to be a paid shill for vested interests, when anyone who shills for "the other side" is obviously compromised and thus untrustworthy?

Why was it O.K. for him to switch hypotheses mid-stream? You may or may not know, that his original remit was to demonstrate that the measles portion of the three in one MMR vaccine was responsible for brain and bowel disease and (among other things) pave the way for the introduction of his employer's separate measles shot. Halfway through his study, he changed horses and suddenly with no more evidence than he had for the MMR link, (ie. none) Thimerserol was the boogieman de jour.

You claim fraud and conspiracy on the part of the vaccine proponents, and yet the only demonstrated fraud so far is in your camp. And it was a fraud that began on DAY BLOODY ONE of the whole controversy.

6. I don't know why you felt I was the only one discussing this important story.
Edited on Wed Jan-19-11 12:22 AM by mzmolly
NBC covered it in earlier this year. Huffpo covered it as well. And, in searching the archives I found a few mentions by other participants.

FYI - I'm not discussing Wakefield in this particular thread. I'm discussing the subject in the OP. If you have any up to date info on Mr. Thorsen, I'd appreciate your sharing it. If you're interested in a discussion on Wakefield and the "science" surrounding his fraud allegation, please see http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=222&topic_id=98639&mesg_id=98639">my thread on the subject.

8. Since Wakefield is at the root of this discussion, you don't get leave...
...to exclude mention of him.

The subject in the OP. You claim fraud.

BTW: It wasn't any feeling that ONLY you would be beating this dead horse, it was the quality of the material you referenced that lead me to suspect you in this instance. A quick perusal of the rest of the site simply confirmed my first estimations.

There are millions if not billions to be made proving a link, and only wages to demonstrate otherwise. Strange then that only the wage slaves are producing reproducible results.

9. I'm sorry you don't care for the link. I empathize, given the many sources I don't find

particularly impressive. Feel free to refer to the Huffington Post link I've referenced in my first reply, if you prefer. Or hit google, if the HP doesn't meet your expectations. :eyes:

"There are millions if not billions to be made proving a link, and only wages to demonstrate otherwise."

Interesting logic. How would one profit by proving a link? Seems to me there is a vested financial interest in covering up a link? You know, to prevent mass liability? I can't see how anyone would profit, unless they claimed to have a cure.

Again, if you want to discuss Wakefield vs. the allegations against Dr. Thorsen, feel free to join another thread in which Wakefield is the primary subject. There are several to choose from, including one I posted here in the health forum. I've kicked it to the top so you can easily find it.

On edit, I've found a link from NBC Atlanta: http://www.11alive.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=141643&catid=3

A Danish scientist who was a lead researcher in two studies that purport to show that mercury used in vaccines do not cause autism is believed to have used forged documents to steal $2 million from Aarhus University in Denmark.

Dr. Poul Thorsen was also a research professor at Emory University from 2003 until June of 2009. Emory University officials gave no reason for Thorsen's departure.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention funded research conducted by Thorsen and his colleagues at Aarhus University.

The CDC asked the researchers to conduct studies to determine whether thimerosal, a mercury-based preservative and adjuvant used in vaccines, played ay role in causing autism.

The results of the studies, that there was no link between vaccines containing mercury and autism, formed the foundation for the conclusions of several Institute of Medicine reports.

In a statement Aarhus University officials said Thorsen forged documents supposedly from the CDC to obtain the release of $2 million from the university.
