Is it ok to give my Podiatrist a token gift?
He put this old Humpty Dumpty’s ankle back together again and he did it with assurance, kindness and humor. I'm starting to walk and we're coming to end of my visits after four months and three surgeries. I'm going to write him a letter of appreciation and wanted to include a baseball cap with his university on it. A friend questioned whether a gift could be accepted. Are there any doctors here? Would this be ok?

1. It's probably more appropriate than giving him athlete's foot.
:P

2. Sure!
Like anything, a personal gift that reflects your appreciation in some way is best, but gift cards work too

5. We veterinarians LOVE such gestures from clients, and thank you cards, too.
I assume podiatrists are no different.

6. I gave a painting to my Opthalmologist (I am a wildlife artist)
He helped me a lot, and I have no insurance. Sometimes he wouldn't charge me at all for expensive tests. so I gave him a large acrylic painting of a close-up of a seagull with a big green ocean in the background.

He and his wife hung it in the lobby of his clinic. ;)

I think giving your doctor a gift of appreciation is a great idea; particularly if they do a good job and act like caring human beings. My brother-in-law is a dentist and he receives a lot of little gifts--quite often in the form of cakes and brownies. :9

9. I gave my dental surgeon a gift once
He was just too damn good, and too damn nice. I couldn't help myself. It wasn't much-- he had seen Frank Sinatra in person in Vegas and liked it a lot. I gave him a Frank Sinatra duet CD. It was right before Frank Sinatra died. And this guy was really young, but still appreciated that music. He didn't tell me he couldn't accept it. He liked it.

10. a card or letter telling how they helped you is enough
I've written a doctor before to thank him and also say how he helped me and
it does mean alot to them.

Many go into medicine to make a difference in people's lives, and hearing that they've done
that is great validation of their purpose.

Also, its hard to give the right gift to someone who probably has everything.

Not enough people do take the time to thank a Doc. Its a great gift in of itself.
