Low Dose Naltrexone for Cancer, AIDS, MS and other autoimmune diseases
Edited on Tue Dec-15-09 10:12 PM by Celebration
Naltrexone is an old drug which is approved for use in getting people away from their addictions, such as alcohol. Now, something like 100,000 people worldwide are using it off label, at approximately one tenth of the dosage that is approved for addictions. They are using it rather successfully for various types of cancer, AIDS, Crohn's and MS. One could either obtain this by a doctor's prescription at a compounding pharmacy, or compound it oneself to make the dose low enough.

There are some small studies on this drug treatment, and finally, now, apparently there are some larger ones underway in the UK. The great thing about the drug is that there are no side effects, it is cheap, and just a pill once a day.

They hold a low dose naltrexone conference every year, and here are a couple of case studies presented at that conference, on pancreatic cancer that had metastisized to the liver.

This particular doctor also added IV alpha lipoic acid to the protocol.)

Do some searches and you can find other videos and websites from MDs and satisfied patients. Here is one pretty decent website, as an example.

LDN looks very interesting, but I don't know anyone who has used it.

1. There is a forum advocating the use of LDN in pets. I agree it sounds promising.

Description
Information on the use of Low Dose Naltrexone in the treatment of dogs, cats, horses and other pets. Known by the acronym LDN, this is a "low dose" form of therapy utilizing the FDA approved drug Naltrexone for the "off label" treatment of immune related disorders. The mechanism of action appears to involve an immune modulating or balancing effect of various components of the immune system mediated through an effect on Endorphin levels.

Naltrexone was approved by the FDA in 1984. It is legally available to be prescribed by physicians and veterinarians for any purpose. When given to humans in low doses, Naltrexone increases the body's production of endorphins. Endorphins are hormones, produced by the body, which help maintain and regulate the immune system. There is a growing body of information reporting the effectivness of LDN in the treatment of a wide range of immune related and auto-immune disorders. It has been in use in this manner for over 20 years.

In developing Naltrexone for full dose use toxicity testing in rats, rabbits, dogs and monkeys determined that at therapeutic levels Naltrexone was non-toxic and had very few side effects. However obtaining FDA approval for the Low Dose regimen will require funding that due to the present out of patent or generic status of the drug will be difficult to obtain from any pharmaceutical company. Some privately funded pilot studies have been conducted and show much promise. More extensive studies are needed and funding continues to be sought by advocates of LDN.

5. Thank you for posting about LDN!
I am taking LDN for Crohn's Disease (auto-immune bowel disease) for 6 months now. It is the only drug I am taking for Crohn's. I am using LDN cream at 3 mg.in conjunction with the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. I've been on the diet for 5 years, and it saved my life.

Low dose naltrexone works to modulate the immune system. It sets up a short opioid blockade, which prompts the body to produce more endorphins and endorphin receptors.
