High Dose Intravenous Vitamin C for Cancer
Edited on Tue Apr-11-06 12:20 PM by itsjustme
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - High-dose intravenously administered vitamin C apparently led to longer-than-expected survival in three patients with advanced cancer, doctors at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland and colleagues in Canada report. Two of the three patients are still alive without evidence of disease.

In the three cases described in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, vitamin C was given intravenously at doses ranging from 15 to 65 grams to produce plasma concentrations that cannot be achieved by taking vitamin C by mouth.

Dr. Mark Levine of the National Institutes of Health and colleagues note that all three patients survived for longer than expected for the types and stages of cancers that they had. At the doses delivered, vitamin C "is a pro-drug for hydrogen peroxide formation," they explain. Histology results also showed evidence of tumor hemorrhage, attributable to vitamin C.

..........................

While early clinical trials of intravenous and oral vitamin C showed benefit in cancer patients, randomized controlled trials of oral vitamin C failed to show benefit. Based on their three patients, "the role of high-dose intravenous vitamin C therapy in cancer treatment should be reassessed," the authors conclude

3. My MD is on the cutting edge of vitamin therapy
My husband was diagnosed with Hepatitus C in 2001, and she gave him high doses of Vitamin C and Alpha Limpoic Acid via an IV. He also took herbs. The last lab tests showed all liver functions normal.

5. That's wonderful! I have to say, IV vit C treatment has been
around for many years. I'm glad they are taking a look at it again.

I had to go to Mexico to get my cancer cure! I skipped chemo and did Gerson therapy instead- eight years ago.

7. Linus Pauling was the first Vit. C proponent. MDs laughed at him.
It must be a good feeling, being able to laugh at a man who won two separate Nobels in different fields. (one of them being peace)

He started his proposals about Vitamin C in the late 60s and early 70s. He wrote a book about C and common cold.

The guy was a genius on par with Richard Feynman

8. Yet there is also danger from high-dose intravenous Vitamin C.
# McAllister CJ and others. Renal failure secondary to massive infusion of vitamin C. JAMA 252:1684, 1984.
# Lawton JM. Acute oxalate nephropathy after massive ascorbic acid administration. Archives of Internal Medicine 145:950-951, 1985.
# Wong K and others. Acute oxalate nephropathy after a massive intravenous dose of vitamin C. Australian and New Zealand Journal of Medicine 24:410-411, 1994

People should be cautioned against any practitioner claiming a miracle cure in the form of vitamin C.

9. People should also be monitored if they are put on this type of therapy
Nor does my MD claim a "miracle cure". My husband's liver functions were carefully monitored during his time on the IVs. In his case, it was found that the addition of certain herbs helped improve liver function faster. Knowing my doc, if the IVs hadn't done anything, she would have stopped them and tried other therapies.
