Still no smoking - I'm at 18 days now.
Un-freaking-believable. I never thought I could do it. I'm even beginning to see a stretch into the future as a non-smoker.

3. Congratulations!
I'm wanting to do it before the end of the year. I keep looking at the calendar to see when I have three days to detox without going nutz. How did you do it?

4. I got pneumonia.
But, I will tell you something that I learned: get some electronic cigarettes. I quit cold turkey, because, with the pneumonia, I just couldn't face putting smoke into my lungs again. It was difficult, but worth it. But, I've heard wonders about the electronic cigarettes. You should really check into them.

19. Have you tried them?
There seem to be a gazillion brands of them.

22. No, but I've talked to people who have.
I think the best place to get them is puresmoker.com

7. Congrats. I have to stop on the 1st. Insurance goes up if I don't and my
step-son is at an age (4) where I'd rather him not remember or want to imitate or be around me smoking outside (where he likes to play)... and my hubby quit (so, I'd like to kiss him all the time, not just when I get out of the shower and after brushing teeth). So, maybe in a bit, when I'm pulling my hair out.. you'll remind me, its possible to get thru the tough first days when giving up sounds so good.

8. Just get a lot of those twizzlers and a lot of other stuff to snack on.
I looked like a total fool, but I didn't care. I bit the end off of twizzlers and black licorice and sucked on them just like I would a cigarette and inhaled deeply. I ended up a bit dizzy, but somehow satisfied, for the moment.

And don't worry about gaining weight. You'll lose it later. Just stuff your face with anything but a cigarette.

11. Congrats!
Did you patch? I did and it made it a lot easier for me. Been a year and a half now. Sucks that patches cost more than equivalent pack a day but the patches stop after a few months. Good luck!

13. Many high fives!
I've got a starter pack of Chantix sitting on the table. I'm going to start it soon. I've got the last 2 weeks of the year off. I think that will be a good time.

That is not an easy thing to do. Take it from me, and I'm sure many other's who've quit: It's well worth it! And you won't believe the extra money you'll have.

23. That's a silly way of negating the major part of the addiction.
You can go through nicotine withdrawal in your sleep--at least the physical part of it.

24. I'm more than 20 years off the coffin nails ... and you know what helped me? Q-tips.
I used to keep Q-tips in my office desk drawer, and take a "drag" on one of them every once in a while. It's like dragging air through a filter, and it gives you that feeling of sucking on a ciggie without ever having a ciggie. It was a great crutch for a while. I went cold turkey, and never looked back.

Best of luck to you ... quitting the smokes is the best thing you can do for yourself. Congratulations on your bravery ... it is GODDAMNED hard!

26. I'm actually coughing again.
I've got a stuffy nose and have to clear my throat constantly. I think they call it smoker's flu, but having just recovered from pneumonia, it is a goddamned nuisance. Benedryl seems to kick it, but I am so sick of swallowing pills.

Other than that, I'm great. It's really strange to be free of the cigs.
