Banjo used in brain surgery
A musician who underwent brain surgery to treat a hand tremor played his banjo throughout to test the success of the procedure.

Eddie Adcock is one of the pillars of Bluegrass Music and realised his tremor could threaten his ability to perform professionally.

Surgeons placed electrodes in Mr Adcock's brain and fitted a pace maker in his chest which delivers a small current which shuts down the region of his brain causing the tremors.

A surgeon filmed the operation at the Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

2. Sounds like the setup for a joke!
But since it wasn't...

I recently had surgery on my hand, and asked the doctor if, after surgery, I would be able to play the banjo. He said, "I'm doing surgery on your hand, not giving you a lobotomy."

"Doctor, doctor will I be able to play the banjo after the operation?"
"Yes, of course…"
"Great! I never could before…"

Upon hearing from his doctor that he only had six months to live, a man exclaimed, "But doctor, is there anything I can do?"
"I'm afraid not." said the doctor. "But, there is one thing you could try..."
"What, what, I'll try anything..."
"Find yourself a homely girl that plays the banjo and move to Pittsburgh."
"Will that help me live longer?"
"No, but it will make time go by really slowly..."

I'm an amateur musician myself, and spent the last couple weekends at music festivals. Quite a few of the jam sessions I attended had banjos in attendance. When they are played by someone good... I usually play clarinet, but played bodhran in an Irish Folk band in a previous life. I've heard all the bodhran/percussionist jokes myself.

I'm actually a banjo fan. One of my favorite musicians is Bela Fleck; I'm sure he needs no introduction to you. ;)

Life is like a banjo--what you get out of it depends on how you play it.

Edit - oh, I watched the brain surgery video. Amazing stuff! Thanks for posting it!
