EMF causes adverse health effects including leukemia
Edited on Mon Jan-16-06 11:06 AM by philb
Some studies have found persons with chronic exposure to electromagnetic fields(EMF) to have higher levels of mercury exposure and excretion(33c,38). Such fields are known to induce current in metals and would increase the effects of galvanism.
EMF is also documented in animal and human studies to cause cellular calcium efflux and affect calcium homeostasis (39,40), which may be a factor in the reduction of melatonin levels caused by EMF exposure in animal and human studies(40,41).

In studies on chicks this had significant adverse effects on viability of embryos and chicks. Melatonin is known to be protective against mercury and free radical activity, as well as regulating the circadium rhythym cycle and sleep cycle. EMF exposure lowers melatonin production and disrupts the sleep cycle(41). Since mercury is known to have some of these same effects and EMF exposure increases mercury exposure in those with amalgam, it is not clear in humans the relative role of the causality mechanisms.

Occupational exposure to higher levels of EMF have also been found in many studies to result in much higher risk of chronic degenerative neurological conditions such as ALS(42), Alzheimer's Disease (43,33c), as well as Leukemia and Cancer(44,47,33c). Pooled analysis of 3,247 cases of childhood leukemia in Europe, North America and New Zealand published last year found increased rate of leukemia in those with high EMF exposures, over 4 microgauss(47a). Studies in UK found that one in 200 British children are exposed to high levels of electromagnetic radiation in the home and that this could be doubling their risk of leukaemia(47). Since EMF causes increased mercury exposure in those with amalgam, and mercury is also known to cause these conditions, again it is not clear the relative importance of the factors since the studies were not controlled for mercury levels or number of amalgam fillings.

2. Study finds higher suicide rates in those exposed to high EMF occupational

Subject:
Exposure to electromagnetic fields and suicide among electricutility WorkersImportance: HighEdwin van Wijngaarden, David Savatz, Robert C Kleckner, Jianwen Cai, DanaLoomis. Exposure to electromagnetic fields and suicide among electric utilityWorkers: a nested case-control study. Occup Environ Med 2000; 57:258-263

Conclusion - "These data provide evidence for an association between occupational electromagnetic fields and suicide"

(as previously seen, those with amalgam and EMF exposure get higher mercury exposure)

It might be noted that dentists also have been documented to have high suicide rates and high rates of neurological and mood disorders, along with significant mercury exposure occupationally.

note: there have been a lot of animal and human studies of the EMF/health effect issue and I can post large numbers of abstracts of these studies which I have reviewed. EMF research was a major job function of mine for a gov't agency at one time, and I have a huge amount of study documentation available. I was trained in measuring EMF and did a lot of tests on levels of EMF from various sources/appliances/etc.

4. High local EMF exposures include computer monitors, microwaves,
hair dryers, drills & power equipment(motors), and other things with motors you are around a lot up close.
Plus high voltage power lines that you are under or close to(100 feet or so) a lot.
also some car engines/electronics, etc.

For those with a lot of mercury fillings, having a flat screen computer monitor is a good idea, and not being around
equipment with motors close up a lot.

3. Large Calif. study finds EMF connection to chronic conditions & suicide
In a long term comprehensive electromagnetic fields(EMF) risk assessment study by the California Dept. of Health Services, all reviewers concluded that it is highly likely that EMF causes some forms of cancer, along with chronic neurological conditions like ALS(Lou Gehrig’s’s disease) and depression. They also found a significant likelihood that EMF causes cardiovascular problems and increased suicide(1). People are commonly exposed to electromagnetic fields from computer monitors, microwaves, televisions, other appliances, and power lines.

5. Birth defects linked to military parents engaged in electronic warfare(EMF
Edited on Thu Jan-19-06 09:28 PM by philb
Birth Defects Linked to Parent's Service on Torpedo Boat Using Electronic Warfare
Researchers at Norway's Bergen University have found that the risk of having children with birth defects was four times greater for military personnel serviing in the 1990's on a torpedo boat that used electronic warfare. The scientists found that 6 children were stillborn and 8 children were born with birth defects out of the 114 children of paents who served on the ship

Torpedo boat 'birth defect link'
Service aboard a Norwegian navy torpedo boat has been linked to an increased risk of having children with birth defects, a study says.
Researchers looked at data from 2,000 personnel, the Occupational and Environmental Medicine journal said.
Bergen University found those serving in the 1990s on the boat used in electronic warfare had four times more risk of having children with defects.
But the team were unable to identify the reason for the results.
The Royal Norwegian Navy commissioned the researchers to do the study after reports surfaced of people of military personnel having children with birth defects.

It is clear the children of people who served on board the ship had higher rates of congenital malformation

Dr Nils Mageroy, of Bergen University
The KNM Kvikk, which was in service between 1971 and 1995, was a torpedo boat which was used for electronic warfare.
Between 1987 and 1994 the ship was fitted with a 750 watt high-frequency transmitter designed to block communications between enemy vessels, but apart from that had similar communication and radar equipment to that of many vessels in the navy.
The team found that of the 114 children of parents who had served on the ship, eight had been born with birth defects and six were stillborn. The problems were four times the rate of those among children whose parents did not serve on the ship.
Researchers were unable to say that the radiation from the transmitter had caused the birth defects as other factors such as stress and exposure to vapour from oil or diesel could play a role.
The Ministry of Defence in Norway said an inquiry has been launched into the issue, which has prompted compensation claims.
Since the mid 1990s Norway has signed up to a Nato agreement to ensure people keep to safe distances from such equipment.
Investigation
An investigation carried out in 1999 concluded no causal link could be established between the high-frequency transmitter and birth defects.
Lead researcher Dr Nils Mageroy said: "It is clear the children of people who served on board the ship had higher rates of congenital malformation.
"However, what we cannot say is that the transmitters were the cause. Other factors could have had an impact."
Dr Michael Clark, of the UK's Health Protection Agency, said the 750 watt transmitter was as powerful as a microwave.
He added: "We will look at this study carefully. The military are major users of radio and radar but, as the journal points out, this study does not actually establish a link between exposure and birth defects. Other studies have shown no link."
The UK Ministry of Defence said it was unaware of any similar cases among British military personnel.
Heidi Langvik-Hansen, of the Norwegian Ministry of Defence, told the BBC News website a register had been set up to improve surveillance of the health of armed forces personnel in the country.
"Information from this register may be linked to civilian health registers for general studies and comparisons on different aspects of the health situation for military personnel, compared to the population as a whole."

There is similar experience for Radio wave tower exposure (RF)
