It is to benefit the powerful drug companies, and another reason is to kill off the senior population. I have, in the past, been able to get some of my prescriptions free and some by paying only 10% of the retail price. My low income allowed me to do that. I had the shock of my life yesterday when my daughter picked up my medicine at the local drugstore. I had given her my credit card because I had no cash. The bill is usually $35.00 for 3 prescriptions. When I opened the package I saw that an arthritic drug I have been using was $150.00 after "giving" me what was left of the amount I had been granted previously. If I had picked it up I would have declined it. But my daughter didn't know so I cannot blame her. The gist of it is after talking to the pharmacist, who was also astonished, but mostly because she said that the retail price of that drug was now $196.00 for a thirty-day supply, I realized there is no way to win. Two years ago before I was on the plan it was $80.00.
So this is how we were set up. Set the retail price so high, if one gets a discount, we are supposed to think we are getting a bargain, even with paying a "small premium monthly." And the WH and Congress passed that bill making sure they wouldn't haggle with the pharm companies to give lower prices.
We are no longer the Home of the Free--just the Brave, because we will have to be brave to fight our illnesses and our government. I am but one among many seniors who will have to deal with this and the Land of Bush.
