Score a victory for stem cell research
A new study from Massachusetts is showing that embryos are unharmed in stem cell creation. Chalk one up for stem cell research. Let's hope Bushie now lifts his ban.

2. Those fanatics will believe what they've been told to believe
by a bunch of fulminating, pompadoured preachers and there isn't a damned thing science can do about it.

They will have to be forcibly marched back out of the center of power and to the lunatic fringe where they so clearly belong.

4. fulminating, pompadoured preachers don't disappoint -
A top federal research official called the Advanced Cell Technology process problematic.

There is no data proving that the process does not inflict harm, said Story Landis, chief of the Stem Cell Task Force of the National Institutes of Health. "They could be fine. They might have suffered harm. All we know is that they are in a freezer and 'looked OK' when they were put there."

Religious activists, meanwhile, said Advanced Cell Technology's technique is unacceptable because it exploits and might do physical injury to embryos, even when they survive the process.

"This fails to deliver any kind of ethical solution," said the Rev. Tadeusz Pacholczyk, education director of the National Catholic Bioethics Center.

5. are you sure you are on the right site?
I think most people here would agree that even if these frozen embryos are harmed by the process, that the technology is so promising in terms of helping people with Alzheimer's, Parkinsons, and spinal cord injuries that its worth it.
I doubt you are going to impress many here quoting from the National Catholic Bioethics center. This is a science topic, and religious fundamentalists who know nothing about science aren't helpful.

6. I try not to do 'sarcasm' icons
I was responding to the previous post with a story that verified the poster's fear, and mine: religious "ethicists" are trying to create a debate where none truly exists. Failing to use science to advance human health is about as unethical as it gets.

As a type 1 diabetic for 45 years, I am very interested in developments such as this.

3. Well, I doubt * will lift his ban but that's GREAT news. STR is one of my
major issues. Maybe more people who can think critically (which completely eliminates *) will get behind this very important cause.
