Healthy living 'can add 14 years' (BBC)
Taking exercise, drinking moderately, eating sufficient fruit and vegetables and not smoking can add as much as 14 years to your life, a study has found.

Research involving 20,000 people over a decade found those who failed on all criteria were four times more likely to have died than those who succeeded.

The findings held true regardless of how overweight or poor they were.

The Public Library of Science Medicine study suggests many could increase their lifespan through simple changes.

The research was carried out by the University of Cambridge and the Medical Research Council in the English county of Norfolk between 1993 and 2006.

3. Tell yourself the 14 yrs you'll miss would be the ones spent in diapers ...
sitting out on the sun porch, talking to people who died thirty years ago.

6. Unless we're alcoholics, drug addicts or really bad sword-swallowers, we nearly all make it to 75
As you say, beyond that, it's all a question of Depends undergarments and having the spittle wiped off your chin.

But the exercise, good nutrition and other stuff will help make the years healthier, too, which is an added bonus.

5. My father passed away last June at the age of 95
.
.
.

So if I continue with my drinking and smoking, etc., I should be good until 75 - 80?

I remember a conversation with my father about a decade ago regarding longevity - I mentioned that he could well live to be 100 or more -

He responded, I don't really think I want to live that long -

He lived through 2 World Wars, served in WW2

Glad he won't see WW3

I still miss him tho . .

7. What a lovely post
I'm with you -- I'd just as soon miss the puking-on-myself years. lol Better to have seventy good years than
110 looking like a barely conscious baked potato for those "She's 110" photo ops. Ninety should be good enough
for almost anyone.
