Cleveland Clinic--Reiki, yoga and acupuncture dovetail with Western scienc
It is a start........

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleveland_Clinic

Cleveland Clinic is a multispecialty academic medical center, a national referral center, and an international health resource providing specialty care for all diseases and disorders of the body.

Cleveland Clinic is ranked among the three leading hospitals in America (U.S. News & World Report, 2006). It has ranked number one in America for cardiac care for 12 years in a row. Its urology and gastroenterology services are ranked among the two best in in the nation.....................

Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute is the fifth largest research institute in the country, having total annual research expenditures exceeding $150 million from the NIH and other funding sources. With approximately 700 residents and fellows, the Clinic’s graduate medical education program is one of the largest in the country. A new medical school, Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University, was opened in 2004. The program’s curriculum has been devised by Cleveland Clinic staff physicians to train and mentor a new generation of physician-investigators.

Cleveland Clinic has been the site of numerous medical firsts. These include the discovery of coronary angiography, the first coronary artery bypass, the first successful larynx transplant, and major advances in kidney surgery, hypertension research and the genetics of heart disease.

Two years ago today, the Cleveland Clinic Center for Integrative Medicine in Broadview Heights opened its doors to a trickle of patients -- about four or five a week.

Today, more than 12 times that number come to the center for such treatments as acupuncture, Reiki, massage therapy, nutritional counseling and yoga therapy.

That these alternative treatments -- such as Reiki, a healing-touch therapy -- have the Cleveland Clinic's imprimatur seems to have contributed to patients'acceptance.

..................

"Since the Cleveland Clinic is an academic institution, what we offer are evidence-based therapies," says Edwards. "I am not going to recommend therapies that don't have scientific merit."

Edwards provides patients with a one-hour consultation that addresses their physical illness, as well as their emotional and spiritual health and well-being. She emphasizes the importance of nutrition, particularly an anti-inflammatory diet. Inflammatory foods are high in animal fats, trans fats, sugar and refined carbohydrates.

1. Hmmm..
Medical director Edwards has had a professional connection with complementary medicine for a decade. As an associate professor at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, she long offered courses in alternative medicine. Her guest lecturers included experts in mind-body medicine (meditation and guided imagery, for example), alternate systems of healing (such as Ayurveda, traditional Chinese medicine and homeopathy), manual healing therapies (chiropractic and Feldenkrais), energy-based healing (Reiki and acupuncture) and nutritional therapy (diet, herbs and supplements).

So...how about that evidence?

2. Evi-what?
Look--they're experts. Why would they need evidence?

4. It's great news that the
Cleveland Clinic is offering these types of therapies however, it's difficult to find an insurance company that will cover them. (therapies such as these)
