It looks like cancer.
My younger sister had a sonogram yesterday and the doctor told her she has a large mass in or on her thyroid with several smaller spots around it. The word "cancer" hasn't been used yet, but she's going to have a CAT scan tomorrow to better diagnose the problems....difficulty in swallowing; hoarseness; difficulty in turning her head.

I'm just sick to death over this. She's suffered with diabetes for decades, broke her back years ago, has neuropathy in both legs and feet, already lost one of her toes due to diabetes, suffered through shingles in her eye, had stents put in her arteries, and survived a near-fatal bout of MRSA last year.

She's only 63 and has a heart of gold and a sense of humor that won't quit. It just seems so unfair.

Thanks for listening, friends. We shall endure.

1. I'm so very sorry to hear this...
Unfortunately, life is unfair.

A sense of humor will be a wonderful thing to have, going forward...

My best to you, and her.

3. Oh my. I am sorry for all your sister has suffered.
I can tell you that most thyroid issues are benign! Truly, the percentages are in her favor -- 90+% I believe.

I hope she's ok -- and she is surely blessed to have you.

Sending angels.

9. I had thyroid cancer and although I didn't have any symptoms, I learned that
thyroid cancer is one of the 'slowest growing' cancers. So I'll pray your sister caught it in time. Hugs to you and her!

11. Your sister has at least one very good thing in her favor;
she has at least one sibling that cares and is there for her.

Sending prayers for the best outcome for her. Sounds like she has really had a tougher row than many. :grouphug:

14. you sister is a miracle. bless her and you and yours. my father
had eleven surgeries in his life and three cancers. My mother had about the same. She beat this herself. Keep a good thought, my dear heart. I will too for all of you.

Mama's lump was so big it looked like a goiter and she beat it. Took a pill forever but she beat it. Hang on, honey.

15. Keep hoping for a while yet. I found a large mass (about the size of a small egg) on my thyroid
(also has some much smaller tumors around it) almost two years ago. A sonogram sent me to a specialist who did a biopsy. The cyst is benign, but should come out due to its size. However, I have no insurance and it will have to wait until I can do something about it.

I hope for similar good news for your sister. Good luck.

16. It's "one of the best" to have
My parent had this and it was removed entirely and then thyroid pills must be taken but it's not something that causes lots of side effects. Best of luck to you and your sister!
