LGBT High School Scrapped
I guess I should have seen this coming.

http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/2008/11/gay-lesbian-high-school-chicago.html

I found this at another board on which I post and if gay rights are called special rights one more time, I will SCREAM!

2. I Can't Agree With You More
This is the thread thus far at the other board where I found the original link. I tried but these homophobic jerks do NOT get it at all. By the way, I'm MerlynHerne

Gay high school scrapped- really, who wants to encourage sex in school?

I'm all for equal rights and an end to bullying but this is preferential treatment. I'm glad it gotkilled because it's sexual discrimination and if you are studying to get into college, WHO THE FUCK CARES WHO YOU HAVE SEX WITH?

Sex is not the point, RR. These schools are being proposed because of the homophobia in the general population. It is the straight homophobic fuckers who cannot leave gay people to be themselves and instead, taunt and beat them. THIS is why a gay school was suggested. Maybe when straights stop teaching their kids hatred and bigotry, there will BE no need for LGBT schools.

We should have separate (but equal) schools for all the dickheads and douchebags out there, regardless of sexual orientation.

But why not just create a school for fat girls, skinny boys, kids who are goth etc? It's not just gays and lesbians that are targeted by bullies. Bullies will try to find any excuse to pick on a kid.

Just want to get this straight, so to speak...are you saying gay kids are douchebags, or all kids are douchebags? If you are saying the latter, I am inclined to agree with you.

Dickhead High would at least have an interesting mascot.

This is my point- why should orientation be an issue when the purpose of the school is for education? Everyone gets picked on at some point- you just have to learn to deal with it.

Being pciked on and beaten to a pulp are two different things.

I do agree on douchebags coming from all segments of society.

Straight kids get the shit kicked out of them too.

I have to say though that in high school, one of the biggest assholes I ever met was a gay kid who was more or less out. He had no guy friends but he was in with the popular girls. He was the ring leader of that clique and used to target the scholarship students. I remember him encouraging "his girls" to recreate the "tampon scene" in Carrie on an unsuspecting girl who he hated because she was a suck up.

3. I got a kick out of this freeper comment:
Peggy sue Giggles on November 19, 2008 6:04 AM
please give my children a speical school also based on they needs they want also. stop giving the gays more rights then the rest of us.

You know, "Peggy sue Giggles," I hope your children do not have the same problems with spelling, grammar, proper capitalization, and just forming a coherent sentence that you seem to. If so, then there is a "speical school" where they will be properly matched with other students based on "they needs they want also."

It's called preschool. Perhaps you should look into it for yourself also.

In all seriousness, this is really sad news. The fact that such a school is even deemed necessary is indicative of the failings of our public schools in stopping bullying and harassment based on differences in sexual orientation and gender identity, whether they be real or perceived. If this safe space is not being granted, then I hope the Chicago Board of Education will start taking greater steps to better address some of these problems that our youth face.

5. Good Point, Phredicles
This argument over at the board is, since all kids get bullied and beaten up, gay kids should just lie down and take it. Why? (Now repeat after me):"BECAUSE IT'S ALWAYS BEEN THAT WAY!!!"

Here is a "brilliant" reply from one member.

As it has been mentioned, kids have been bullied regardless of sexual orientation. The students who went "postal" at school towards their tormentors and anyone else who was in the way were not all gay or of any other "minority". I was the victim of bullying in the 8th Grade. No one cared what the sexual orientation was! My mom moved to another part of the San Francisco Bay Area. We went from San Francisco to San Bruno (a suburb of where there was lack of tolerance who was 'different'). My difference was that I did not wear the "right" clothes. I got beat up for that and started to not give a d@mn when I got to high school. I felt anger and not worthy so I messed up badly in H.S. If a gay high school is a part of society due to the hassle kids get at school, almost every other parent is going to demand a separate school paid for by the state and the taxpayers to educate their harassed kids.

And Here is my answer:

But, Krishna, does that mean that other kids should go through that? I was bullied in school because I was, early on, perceived to be different. I certainly don't want to see other gay kids go through that.

The reason gay kids are bullied and beaten is the hate that is instilled in children by their fucked-up breeder parents, and the schools do NOTHING to stop bullying. No child should be bullied, regardless of race, religion (though I might make an exception for fundies), sexual orientation or whatever. But a chance to even let one group learn in peace is special rights, huh? I guess that because kids have always been bullied, we should just let it continue. After all it's just part of "being a kid".
