Scottish Bishop Calls For Ban On Gay Teachers
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/03/032105scotland.htm

A senior Catholic bishop in Scotland has called for a ban on gay teachers.

Bishop Joseph Devine said there is no place in faith schools for gay or lesbian teachers. Devine wants the Charter for Catholic Schools revised to include the ban.

The charter outlines 10 elements of the church's philosophy of education which can be found in Catholic schools throughout Scotland.

1. so . . . does this require proof of gayness?
or just presumption?

2. I can live with that, it's for a faith based school, no need to push it
down their throats if it doesn't jibe with their religious beleifs.

By the same token, gay man calls for ban on religios teaching in public supported schools should have the same weight and be respected equally.

4. Catholic School
in NY tried to fire two teachers; one for being divorced and another for getting a vasectomy. Want that too? Students walked out and parents stopped paying TUITION. They were reinstated.

5. again, is there an indicator on their driver's license or something?
Isn't it funny, that once someone says you can be fired for being gay, you can be fired for being presumed gay. That should scare just about anyone who isn't married with five children and three more on the way.

8. Exactly
and you know what else, in all honesty? This is not a criticism of anyone, but it's odd to me that people who would be discriminated against by an organization would defend that organization, rather than preserve their energies for more worthy battles.

I'm not saying that I necessarily disagree with people who say, "oh, it's a private school, it's nobody's business," but I daresay chances are if gays and lesbians were really under attack, do you think for one second that school would speak up and defend gays and lesbians? I really don't think so.

But, your mileage may vary.

6. Again, it was a private school, they are free to set their own rules
and apparently, the market forces of that school were enough to get them to reconsider their decision.

You ask if I "want that too?" Bluntly yes - private affairs that I am not involved in are just that, private. While asking for other's to stay out of my private affairs, I must respect theirs as well.

If the school that you cited had been a public school supported with tax dollars, then it would be a totally different situation - but it's a private school organized around a certain religious beleif and paid for by the attendees - myself, or the general, taxpaying public have nothing to do with it, so it's none of our business.

10. Private School
If this was a public school, I would be angry about it, because I intend to be a teacher, but this is a private religious school, so let them set their own rules. Forcing ourselves down everyone's throat isn't the way to promote tolerance.

11. I presume that means Lay teachers
It couldn't mean gay priests, brothers and nuns, for obvious reasons.
