Lazin will receive the Virginia Uribe Award for Creative Leadership in Human Rights in recognition of his efforts on behalf of those facing sexual orientation discrimination and harassment in education. Lazin will join 10 other civil and human rights recipients who work to promote social justice and dignity at an awards ceremony in July.
While Lazin had already received plaudits for his entrepreneurship, business and economic development, and regional and national community service, his road to youth activism began after hearing the tragic story of 19-year old Jim Wheeler at Cedar Crest High School.
