I got in trouble responding to another thread that was started in opposition to bronxboy's. I felt that bronxboy had a right to his opinion, so I told the straight white guy who started the oppo thread that he was an idiot. That wasn't nice (as he reminded me in another thread) and I apologized but I really do think it's idiotic not to let African Americans talk about the experience of being African American. I mean, I'm Anglo so what the fuck do I know about being African American? Sit down and let bronxboy speak, I figured.

That's it as far as I know. That is the sum total of why I am now called a racist by a couple of posters all over DU.

I think she believes she's on some kind of a righteous mission. Meanwhile, she has no idea the damage she has done. I am really offended by it. I don't know how to confront it. I tried to head her off in yardwork's thread - I know she won't be stopped with argument. I thought maybe she'd be shamed into looking at herself if I took the Gandhi approach. I was not insincere - I think we all could benefit from a little self-reflection and reassessment. But why are some insistent on building this thing up? A molehill of misunderstanding has been turned into a mountain, and we end up buried under it. Honestly, I don't take these broad-brush accusations of racism lightly. I've tried in the best faith to foster understanding and diffuse tension. I don't understand why I'm to be beaten over the head for not being someone's politically correct fantasy. Supposedly she's pulled off some kind of coup through her research on polls and the Catholic church, and whatnot. But I can't even look at her data, considering the context she's presenting it in.

Look, I understand. I have listened and talked to some AA DUers who were disturbed at the tone of some things. Some have been quite sincere, and we should broaden our perspective to include their concerns, and be conciliatory. That is the way to build trust, to build consensus, and become better people. But some I believe are self-righteous flame fanners that don't give two shits.

It's ironic that she's now pushing the idea - supported by her "data" - that this is all the fault of the Catholic Church. While she's defending one group from blame, she's blaming another. She seems incapable of looking at the situation and recognizing that this was a hateful proposition funded by numerous different groups, who used their money and influence to coerce and encourage votes among many different voters. She shuts down every conversation by screeching "racist" while simultaneously insisting that this is all the fault of Catholics, seemingly oblivious to the contradiction.

And I haven't heard one word of human sympathy from her, not one.

The "racism" construct is nothing but a pretty wrapper to try to get around DU rules and post "concerned" homophobic garbage.

I've been called a racist since I supported HRC in the Primaries, and I'm sick of it.

A minority taking away another minority's rights is repulsive, and something we need to discuss and change. Methinks many of the "racism" cries are not only masked phobic comments, but also are people who DON'T want to change anyone's minds. DU is very good about not allowing racism, and they know this will get posts and OPs deleted and locked.

There's a small cadre of such posters.
