1. Are you going to just include companies that contributed...
Edited on Sun Nov-09-08 08:57 AM by IanDB1
... or are you also going to include companies like Disney, just because some guy in charge of accounting donated $5,000 of his own money?

Either way, I think the list is a good thing.

But I'd prefer, personally, just to boycott companies who contributed directly, or whose chief officers donated personally.

JetBlue
Marriott Hotels
Bluehost.com web hosting service (located in UT) - these a$$holes suspended my website after I posted pics that were against prop 8. I uploaded my pics late Friday and on Monday morning they suspended my account for TOS violation, claiming my site had been hacked and used for phishing. The "suspect" files had all been added the day after I posted my prop 8 photos, so I think the timing of the hacking was mighty suspicious. Upon research I found a number of Internet references of Bluehost using their Mormon-based values as an excuse to censor peoples web content. Boycott these bigots, please. If you have a Bluehost account, CANCEL it and then let them know why.

JetBlue, Marriott and Bluehost are Mormon owned business. (Marriott's owners were big contributors to the Yes on 8 campaign)

Here is another list from dailykos of Mormon-owned business:

Boycott list:

1. All Marriotts

2. Manchester Grand Hyatt, San Diego, CA

3. Grand del Mar Resort, San Diego, CA

4. Whitetail Club and Resort, McCall, Idaho

5. Franklin Templeton Investments

6. Prince Group

7. Blackwater (military subcontractors - OK I know it's hard for an average consumer to boycott this one!)

8. The Polynesian Cultural Center, Honolulu, Hawaii

Here is a clue about which businesses are Mormon owned: Biz names with "Blue" in them (i.e., JetBlue, Bluehost.com) - the "Blue" refers to "true-blue Mormons" (aka "TBM", as opposed to Jack Mormons. Here is a wiki description:

There are two types of Mormons - the hard core Mormons are generally referred to as "True Blue Mormons". If you are raised Mormon, attend the secret Temple ceremonies, give 15% of your income, go on a mission as a teen, and hold a "Temple Card" (without which you cannot enter the Temple), you are a True Blue Mormon. If, for whatever reason, you no longer believe and want to leave the church, you would be ostracized by all in the church, and even disowned by your family. You may even have to file suit to have your name removed from their rolls (part of the reason they are so large is because they only add people to the rolls, they don't remove unless forced to).

The second type of Mormon is a Jack Mormon. They go to church meetings on Sunday, and may do a little socializing and work for the church, but they do not have their temple card, weren't married in the temple, and have no desire to get one.

12. If you have to choose just ONE company to boycott, I think it should be Mariott.
Even if you can't be bothered to boycott ALL these companies, people who support Equality should AT LEAST boycott Mariott.

15. Companies, Groups and Individuals that verifiably gave money
FOR Prop 8.

I also would like to add the petition list. Where can we get the list of signatures and addresses? It is public record.

17. I can swear to check this list before I make any corporate
purchases or hire anyone or engage in any financial transaction.

We should organize it by drilling down in to companies by service (landscaping, construction, etc.), by social organizations, and by individual.

Of particular interest to me are small donors who believe themselves to be safe from major scrutiny.

18. Got a good list going of small businesses, on the site.
Edited on Sun Nov-09-08 09:02 PM by ColoradoMagician
Everyone is going to be listed.

As the message goes on the site: If you gave to pass Prop 8, you can expect to see your information on the page also. We have no interest in your right to privacy if you have an interest in taking rights away from us.

I will be listing it according to profession, I am working on sorting the info. You would be surprised how many dentists and orthodontists donated to pass Prop 8.

Right now I am listing small businesses. The big names will be listed in a bit, but I have to research to make sure those companies are still against us. Some may have changed leadership over time. If you all want to start boycotting the big names, if you think you have the right info. Go for it.

The people I am listing are part of the government's database as having donated to pass Prop 8. I did not find any big names on the list, that we would all have recognized. I am researching beyond the database, to get more information on those who declared war on us.

I am also going to start posting news of protests and plans of protests, also.

19. Sorry, y'all. I took the site down.
I still have the domain and will forward it to another list if there is a descent one out there.

I just don't know if spreading more hate is where I should be spending my energies. There are people that are better than me at this stuff.
