The right-wing, both political and religious, has a major persecution complex. Any time someone calls them on their stupidity and prejudice, they go itno hysterics, screaming "Teh gays are persecuting us!" They wouldn't know real persecution if it jumped up and bit them on the ass.

People have begun to get sick and tired of the Religious Wrong in this country. Their agenda has as little to do with Christianity as Soviet Russia had to do with communism.

9. Other considerations aside, how would it be possible for a smaller societal group

to do this to a larger group? Even if one assumes that, from the conservative Christian mindset, the only "real" Christians are Evangelicals and very traditional Catholics, we're still talking about a large minority, even somewhere close to half the population. Whereas GLBT people are what, 10-15%? The numbers for large-scale persecution, even if it were otherwise possible, just aren't there.

Yeah, but tell them that, and their response will be something like, "But a minority CAN persecute the majority! What about apartheid South Africa?" Never mind that most of these people, when apartheid was actually around, probably either didn't give a shit, or secretly thought it was a good idea.
