I think Prop 8 needs a "daisy/nuke" commercial
Edited on Wed Oct-22-08 08:55 PM by ruggerson
If the slime side is willing to go so far as to shriek about "marriage" education in public schools, then it is time we started playing hardball.

--------------------------------------------------------

We hear soft, child-like music.

We focus on an adorable, little, eight year old girl.

She is sitting quietly in the corner of her bedroom.

After a beat, she looks right in the camera.

"I love both my parents so much. My mom is a great cook. She can make lasagna, which is my favorite. My other mom is a really bad cook, but she is teaching us how to play volleyball. And she's really, really good."

She pauses and takes a breath.

"At school, I heard from some of the other kids that there are very bad people who are trying to attack my family."

"I love my family. I'm really scared. Please don't let them destroy my family."

Hold on the girl's terrified face and then dissolve to black.

VOTE NO ON PROP 8.

1. It's over, ruggerson. Hate won the day.
I don't know why we didnt' run with the kids angle. It's the most important angle in all of this.

In any event, a group that can not be called "Christian" here at the DU that was financed openly (and proudly) by the Mormon Church, the Catholic Church, Focus on the Family, and a wide, wide group of almost every Christian denomination (with only a tiny, tiny abstaining minor denominations that don't amount to very much) finally unified Christiandom in a way that nothing else ever has in modern times: hating gay and lesbian citizens.

But we must not refer to that sponsorship as "Christian" : http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=4290018&mesg_id=4290018.

2. *sigh* I have to agree with you, though it pains me to say so.
The next time this comes up, and it will, we should appeal to ALL single people to join in this fight because they don't have the over 1400 state and federal benefits that married people enjoy either. I think the biggest mistake was not listing all of the benefits and letting single people see how they are being discriminated against also.

4. The election is still two weeks away
This is a dead heat. Way too early to give up on this one.

5. I completely agree. This isn't over by a long shot.
It's a statistical dead heat right now. No way is this over.

8. Thanks for your positive post.
I'm just way too jaded on this.

I can't get past the concept of constitutional civil rights of a minority (despised by many) being subjected to a popular election. This is simply kafkaesque and I am not dealing with it well at all.

3. I hope you're wrong David
I agree, it's far too close for my comfort. And it has ramifications for all of us, nationwide. California writing discrimination into the constitution is not a good thing.

7. I hope I am wrong. I truly hope I am wrong.
It's really a shitty thing to have your civil rights voted on by a majority that is different than you are.
