The small victories that eventually add up
I am involved in a gay meetup group that decided to go to a haunted house out in a suburban county to Raleigh. Since I lived closer to the haunted house than to the meet up location they were driving from I decided to go by myself to the haunted house. One other person, who I didn't know, decided to do the same thing. Well I got there early so I was waiting by the entrance for the rest of the group to show. This other lone guy approached me and asked if I was waiting for a meet up group to which I said yes. He introduced himself as did I and we started talking. Soon I realized we were in different meet up groups so I asked him which he was in. He was in a singles group so then I told him which group I was in (called the gay professionals). After a kind of sheepish moment he asked if I wanted to hang with him in case his group had already showed up. Now, say 10 years, or even likely 5 years ago, one would have to wonder just what the reaction would be in this very white, conservative, rural county but tonight it was just normal. His group showed so he didn't end up with us but all the same it was one of those little victories.

1. Saw a GLBT for Obama sticker today in upstate NY.
On my way to Lake Placid. I wanted to catch up to him and give a cheerful beep, beep. A simple act of courage even in 2008. His sticker that is, not my response. Small victories do add up and eventually the total victory follows. Maybe the human race actually does evolve? We can hope!

How was the haunted house?

2. sadly it was lame
the black hole thing was kind of cool though. Then we did dinner downtown. I have a pride ribbon on my car and so far it has been OK. I may have to get rid of it if I decide to visit a friend I have in MS though.

3. Sorry it was lame. I love a good haunted house!
Be safe in MS, still lots of scary people there. I imagine there are lots of nice people too who just haven't really had to think things through yet. Small victories though, we'll take 'em!
