Log Cabin Republicans stand firmly behind John McCain
Ignoring his calls to pass an anti-gay marriage amendment in his home state and his positions on a number of gay and lesbian issues, the Log Cabin Republicans today endorsed Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) for president of the United States.

Issuing a statement from the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis, Log Cabin Republicans president Patrick Sammon that "on the most important issue that LGBT Americans faced in the last decade-the federal marriage amendment-Sen. John McCain stood with us. Now we stand with him."

The organization also praised the Senator's pick of Sarah Palin for Vice President, despite her anti-gay stands on issues such as hate crimes extensions and employment protection. The group said the pick shows McCain is committed to living up to his reputation as a "maverick."

"Sen. McCain has always shown a willingness to reach out and engage in dialog with Log Cabin, while considering all sides of an issue," Sammon said, expressing confidence that McCain will continue such talks if he is elected.

The organization said that the vote of the board was 12 in favor of the endorsement and two opposed. The Board has 17 members, including 16 men and one woman.

2. Use it against them
"McCain / Palin - endorsed by major gay rights organization and part of the gay agenda for your children!"

As part of push poll in the South, could keep as many LIVs home as there are Log Cabins that plan on voting.

3. What percentage of the total gay population are log cabin republicans?
I would venture not many

From every demographic group you will always find a few out of the norm

Rice and Thomas are not representative of the African American population

Wolfiwitz(sic) and William Crystal, are not representative of the American Jewish population

8. thinking more about their tax breaks
than their dignity and self respect. I know a few of these types and am compeltely at a loss as to why a gay man or lesbian would ever support the GOP (A party that thinks they should either not exist or not be "given" equal rights)

fuck them all

peace

17. officially probably fairly few
but about 1/5 to 1/4 of gays have voted Republican in the last 3 elections. Only in 92 did Democrats get 90% of the gay vote.

23. I've heard statistics that 1/3 of gay voting Americans vote Republican
not sure if those exactly count as "log cabin republicans," but it is a large chunk.

10. You can always count on them to vote against their interests as gay people.
Edited on Wed Sep-03-08 06:16 AM by terrya
John McCain does not support ENDA, does not support repeal of DADT, does not support repeal of DOMA, does not support the Matthew Shepard Act. He has one of the worst records of GLBT issues in Congress today.

But as ol' John "reaches out and dialogs" with them, I guess that's just dandy with them. "Reach out and dialog", but still accept that he pushes an anti GLBT agenda. You just have to marvel at how stupidly naive they are.

16. McLame also supports the anti-gay Prop 8 ...
"Log Cabin Republicans president Patrick Sammon that "on the most important issue that LGBT Americans faced in the last decade-the federal marriage amendment"

And yet McLame publicly voiced his support of the November initiative, Proposition 8, which calls for amending California's constitution. Hey, all you gay (and your one token lesbian) Log Cabin Republicans - talk about wearing blinders!! What friggin' hypocrites!!

Self-loathing is a difficult thing to get over. It requires that you stop lying to yourself, find something in yourself to be proud of, and have empathy and a sense of consideration for others. Basic human qualities. It's a tough one.

Need a hug, Log Cabin Republicans?

:sarcasm:

Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 09:12 AM by jonnyblitz
Despite them talking a good talk, actions speak louder than words. To deny this is to be almost as deluded as the Log Cabin people are with their party. We are always voting for the lesser evil when it comes to gay issues. Pandering to religious assholes is a higher priority than we are.

25. that is a bald faced lie
http://americansfortruth.com/news/congressmen-who-broke-with-party-on-enda-vote.html

Democrats 200-25
Republicans 35-159

And of the 25 who voted against, 6 did so due to transgendered being left out.

On hate crimes

http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=110&session=1&vote=00350#position

Democrats 49 in favor, 0 against (both independents were also yes making it 51)

GOP 9 in favor 39 against with one not voting (McCain publicly stated he is against).

I am sick to death of hearing this total nonsense that there is no difference. It is hard to find a bigger difference.

24. It must be a sad, sorry existence when one values ones stock portfolio
and tax cuts over ones own civil liberties.

I pity them. I loathe them too, of course, but I pity them more.
