Man shoots neighbour believing he sodomised his pet cat
A man has been jailed for five and a half years after shooting one of his neighbours, a homosexual, who he claims committed an act of sodomy with his cat and made the animal homosexual too.

Fifty-three year old José Maria Correia, a waiter for 32 years, was sentenced by the São João Novo courts, Oporto, for the crimes of attempted murder and owning an illegal weapon. The incident took place on October 27th last year.

A second neighbour was also injured in the shooting, which took place after the man asked for help in catching his pet.

He asked neighbour Anabela Silva Cruz to help catch the animal which had escaped on to an adjacent piece of land. A second neighbour, homosexual José Pedro Macedo, who was at his window, saw they were having trouble in their attempts and offered his help too.

As he tried to join in the mission, José Correia yelled insults at his neighbour concerning his sexual orientation.

After catching his pet, José Correia went to his neighbour’s house with a 6.35 calibre Browning pistol.

Anabela Cruz remained on the property’s patio and was injured when the Browning was fired.

Courts proved that it was a case of mistaken identity, that José Correia believed it was his other neighbour on the patio, and was convinced José Pedro “was a homosexual and that there had been contact of a sexual nature between the neighbour and his cat.”

Anabela Cruz, a secondary school teacher, was rushed to the São João hospital and had a surgical procedure which resulted in a 23-centimetre scar.

The Court further proved José Correia acted in a deliberate and conscious manner with the intent of killing José Pedro, considering his posture during the trial as “deeply concerning” and with “homophobic attitudes.”

Police searches resulted in the seizure of more ammunition from the man’s home, who was known locally as ‘Zé Pistoleiro’.

“Shooting someone for being a homosexual and for supposedly having sexual intercourse with a cat he helped rescue and for making the animal homosexual too is possibly one of the silliest motives I have ever heard in my life”, said the magistrate.

José Correia was further made to pay Anabela Cruz over €22,000 in compensation.

3. ... wow.
I can't even think of a smart-ass remark to this. This is just mind-boggling.
