Elizabeth Dole Says "Fuck You" To Americans Who Died From AIDS
This is unbelievable. Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R-NC) wants to rename the the current AIDS relief bill after Jesse Helms.

SA 5074. Mrs. DOLE submitted an amendment intended to be proposed by her to the bill S. 2731, to authorize appropriations for fiscal years 2009 through 2013 to provide assistance to foreign countries to combat HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, and for other purposes; which was ordered to lie on the table; as follows: On page 1, line 5, strike "and Henry J. Hyde" and insert ", Henry J. Hyde, and Jesse Helms".

Jesse Helms, the man who in 1987 described AIDS prevention literature as "so obscene, so revolting, I may throw up."

Jesse Helms, the man who in 1988 vigorously opposed the Kennedy-Hatch AIDS research bill, saying, "There is not one single case of AIDS in this country that cannot be traced in origin to sodomy."

Jesse Helms, the man who in 1995 said (in opposition to refunding the Ryan White Act) that the government should spend less on people with AIDS because they got sick due to their "deliberate, disgusting, revolting conduct."

Jesse Helms, the man who in 2002 announced that he'd changed his mind about AIDS funding for Africa, but not for American gays, because homosexuality "is the primary cause of the doubling and redoubling of AIDS cases in the United States."

Many people hold Ronald Reagan responsible for adding to the early AIDS death toll by his inaction on the pandemic, but it was Helms' actions in thwarting early research that inarguably hastened the demise of many thousands of Americans. How many of my friends, of your friends, would be alive today if the life-saving medications had arrived just one fucking year earlier?

Fuck YOU, Senator Dole. Fuck you with something hard and sandpapery.

10. Let's mail her some anomymous, no-return-address packages of our feces
Believe it or not a woman here in Eugene, or it might have been Springfield, did that several years ago in response to a speeding ticket she disagreed with.

3. Big surprise
Let's not forget that the Lovely Liddy started out as a liberal Democrat and turned on a dime when it became politically expedient to do so. Most people don't know that about her. She bears researching, the shallow, opportunistic harlot.

5. Perhaps it's a "Fuck you" to Jesse Helms (though I doubt it, coming from her).
Not far from where I went to school, there was a college named after a 19th century financier and politician. The story was that he was a big time misogynist, and after his death, his second wife, left with his $70 million dollar estate, founded an all women's school and named it after him.

8. In backhanded sort of way, it is
I don't think it is very original, but I do think it kind of funny considering if Mr. Helms were still alive this would do him in. }(

I am so angry I can barely see straight. What is next, the Adolf Hitler Holocost Museam, or maybe the DeKlerk Apartheid Memorial? Pure evil.

7. To think I helped her find an elevator
I could have said take an elevator to hell!

It's true... I was walking towards the Crate under the Mayo Clinic towards Barnes and Noble, and this woman was standing about aimlessly and asked my mum and I where the elevator was (even though there was an escalator to the Marriott). I asked her where she wished to go and told her the right direction.

Only a few seconds later, I said... wasn't that Elizabeth Dole? And my mum said YES that was Elizabeth Dole. She had exactly the same hairstyle as her early senate photos... I wouldn't be surprised if Bob was at the hospital... loads of celebs go there for treatment and I've run into them by accident (King Hussein of Jordan is still my favourite run-into... he smiled and waved at me and I did... then a second later I realised who he was, and that was in the Starbucks of Barnes and Noble where he was having a latte).

9. Was King Hussein handsome in person? I always thought he had a twinkle.

Seemed like a cool guy, for a King. Smart, too -- the way he protected his son by naming him heir at the last possible moment.

Did you see his wife, Lisa Halaby? Her autobiography is interesting.

15. I still saw a twinkle in is eye
This was his last visit to Rochester and he was very ill then... he actually looked quite old and frail. He had no hair as well.

My friend and I were walking to meet my mum at B and N, there was a bodyguard at the door. I thought hmmm who's that... then I saw another bodyguard at the other end, and a bodyguard stood beetween the books tables.

I said that's weird... then turned to walk towards my mum... I was like hello.... walking along... see King Hussein... I took me 10 seconds to realise who it was.

He had been in Rochester for a while, getting treatment for his cancer. When he stopped the treatments, he flew back to Jordan to be with his family. Lots of people in Rochester was at the airport to say goodbye for the last time.

One fact... despite the airport having only two airliners, it's an International Airport. They had to rename it so King Hussein could fly straight in from Jordan.

12. Sweet Merciful Jeebus! I gotta read slower!
When I first saw your headline, I read it Elizabeth Edwards!

To paraphrase Leela,

"That would be by a wide margin the most improbable thing to happen..."

Elizabeth Dole? Ah, quite believable, yet unintentionally funny in a way, given what it would have done to old Jess...

Dole's hate-filled, mean-spirited days in the US Senate will hopefully end in November. Just shameful.

on causes that they once turned their back on. Shameful.
