Gays mentioned two times in speech.
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/06/hillary_clinton_endorses_barac.html

So to all those who voted for me and to whom I pledged my utmost, my commitment to you and to the progress we seek is unyielding.

You have inspired and touched me with the stories of the joys and sorrows that make up the fabric of our lives. And you have humbled me with your commitment to our country. Eighteen million of you, from all walks of life...

(APPLAUSE)

... women and men, young and old, Latino and Asian, African- American and Caucasian...

(APPLAUSE)

... rich, poor, and middle-class, gay and straight, you have stood with me.

We all want an America defined by deep and meaningful equality, from civil rights to labor rights, from women's rights to gay rights...

I as a gay man am proud to have voted for Hillary.

1. I think Hillary could have done something for gays, but I really
don't get the feeling Obama is much interested. Everybody can flame me, but show me where I'm wrong.

3. Last night I was on a phone link with 1200 gays and lesbians which was sponsored
by the Obama campaign. This right on the heels on his monumantal victory.

I got to hear some of the major leaders in my gay community speak out about the future

and what that can mean with a man like Barack in the Oval Office.

I'm a gay activist of 39 years and this is one of the most exciting moments I can remember.

Yes We Can. That means ALL of us.

4. I really would like to hear him explain why he refused to have his
picture taken with Gavin Newcombe (sp?). That story just didn't sit right with me. There was another story about his homophobia, but I can't remember exactly what it was. I'll see if I can find it.

5. Found it.
Barack Obama and Gay Marriage/ Civil Unions:
Although Barack Obama has said that he supports civil unions, he is against gay marriage. In an interview with the Chicago Daily Tribune, Obama said, "I'm a Christian. And so, although I try not to have my religious beliefs dominate or determine my political views on this issue, I do believe that tradition, and my religious beliefs say that marriage is something sanctified between a man and a woman."

17. Gavin Newsom
has been accused of having quite a few affairs and of corruption (ie diverting funds from SF's transportation authority toward his personal staff and lobbyists) None of that has been proven (and who really cares if he's had affairs) but you can't really blame Obama for wanting to steer clear of those kinds of associations, we've all seen how the media harped on his affiliation with Rev. Wright. I don't think his not wanting to be photographed with Gavin Newsom had anything to do with gay marriages.

6. To Obama's credit, the following link does show he supports the
gay and lesbian community, but the picture refusal still bothers me a bit.

2. As a gay man and an Obama supporter it did surprise and please me that
Hillary mentioned the gay community twice in her speech. And it was a good speech. Even great.

I remember the first time I heard Barack mention the gay community as part of what America is...I was thrilled.

So now we have two dynamic people speaking to ALL Democrats and all Americans that the "gay" word is OK.

I'm gay. And I'm really proud today.:toast:

7. She's done that all along
And without a trace of Exodus movement code speak, ever. Obama is better now but for ages he made my skin crawl.
His recent interview in Equality magazine is the best GLBT interview he's done and I liked it. It helped put my mind at ease about him somewhat. He mentioned the 14th Amendment which was really a plus for me.
But I don't expect much from him. He's atavistic in his thinking about those who are not like himself, and if you come from a church background, that is very obvious. He has matured during the campaign. I hope he does not allow the preachers to gay bash at Inauguration, or at any other time. I forgave that once and once only.

I voted for him but I am very worried that he will make me regret it.

13. Why, as a gay man, are you proud to have voted for someone who declined to support your
equality with regard to marriage rights? That makes no sense to me at all.

In my opinion, you can be happy you supported her, but if you are gay, saying you are proud to have supported her is kind of puzzling.

Hey whatever.

but both are way better on GLBT rights when compared to repubs.

18. Neither was my first choice.
DK was by and far my favorite at the beginning.

By the time it was Texas turn to vote, I supported Hillary financially, phone banked for her campaign, proudly voted for her, and went back to caucus for her that night.

Now, I'll support Obama for the General. I'm not confident at all that he will do anything to promote our interests, but he'll sure as hell not set them back like Bush 3.0 will attempt to do.
