Party in the Castro celebrates court decision clearing the way for gay marriages.
Edited on Thu May-15-08 10:37 PM by kansasblue
California's Supreme Court declared gay couples in the nation's biggest state can marry. In November the state may vote on a new ban but for now the celebration is on. Police blocked off one block of Castro in front of the landmark Castro theater and people are dancing in the street to the music of a local dee jay. The mood has been upbeat in the Castro since news broke earlier in the day. News crews were on hand through the afternoon gathering street commentary on the court ruling. And as the party grew tourist and a few local resident stopped to asked what street party was for. The party started just after 7 PM and will last until 10.
