School costume event gets the nutjobs riled up
REEDSBURG, Wis. - An elementary-school event in which kids were encouraged to dress as members of the opposite gender drew the ire of a Christian radio group, whose angry broadcast prompted outraged calls to the district office.

Students at Pineview Elementary in Reedsburg had been dressing in costume all last week as part of an annual school tradition called Wacky Week. On Friday, students were encouraged to dress either as senior citizens or as members of the opposite sex.

(snip)

The response surprised Principal Tammy Hayes, who said no one had raised any objections beforehand. She said a flier detailing Wacky Week had been sent home with children the prior week, and an announcement was also included in teacher newsletters.

1. I have never heard of an elementary school doing this
high schools often do but they tend to get out of hand and get eliminated. Boys dress too slutty.

2. I think it sounds silly and fun. My son would probably love it
so long as he knew that all the other boys would be wearing girl stuff too, lol. He's currently in his "Ewww, girls, ick" stage. ;)

3. It's funny how the right wing always accuses liberals of being PC.
And yet they have their own version of being politically correct that they enforce by the most draconian methods. How often do we read articles where these nutjobs have taken away something sweet and innocent in the cause of being fundamentally correct?

4. The Gay Agenda at work. This brings back a terrible memory...
I was forced by my Catholic elementary school to dress up as a Shepherd for a nativity play.

I was a victim of the dreaded... Shepherd Agenda.

6. In 1918....
...my grandmother was arrested in Middlepoint, Ohio, for wearing pants on horseback on a ride into town. Her brother went to town and punched the mayor in the nose.

10. For crying out loud... cross-dressing is as wholesome as Jack Lemmon & Tony Curtis.
What's with the choice between senior citizens and cross-dressing? That's an odd combo for school dress-up day.
