 I don't know if you were around then, but in the 70's, she was the punchline of many, many jokes.

2. "...Do away with the homosexuals..."
Thank DOG for the pie throwers. That woman was dangerous, and that helped to turn her in the punchline of those jokes!

Let us always take a moment to thank those who humiliate the self-righteous and the arrogant.

5. I was around...I still can't drink orange juice without a shudder
I'm glad she's had problems in her life. She brought them on herself.:puke:

4. Last I heard
(which was ten-fifteen years ago) she was living around Branson MO, the same town where Jim Bakker is living.

Just looked her up on wikipedia. No date of death, so I guess she's still around. Birth year given as 1940--I would have thought her much older than that. Interestingly enough, the wiki article said she apologized for her attitude towards gays. She's gone through bankruptcy and doesn't have many gigs any more. Here's the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anita_Bryant#Career_decline_and_bankruptcy

15. Must be where the "Rapture" will begin..
She and so many others of the "hate generation" seem to have gravitated to Branson. Most of them after they fell on "hard times" and most of them quite humbled by it and most of them quite apologetic for it all.

But still you have to wonder if the humility was merely a cover for their attempt at reviving their careers. That or maybe they believe Branson is where the "Rapture" will begin.

Jim Bakker moved to Branson. Tammy Faye Bakker moved to Palm Springs. And lived her humility! Embraced those who she previously condemned. Who in turn came to love her. And she them. Something Anita Bryant just never understood. Or ever will.

9. Happened here too
as well as many places(I did not know how often that really happened). In Wichita, Kansas she came to cause problems and was pied by a friend of mine. Cool guy, still out there doing the work.

She deserved at least public humiliation. I won't say that often but she was a special case.

10. I met her in the sixties......
.....at her mom's house. Her mom was my Cub Scout den mother. I was actually spending the night there with her little brother, he was one of my best friends. I was 10 yrs old and she was 25, so we were a generation apart. I didn't get any (in case you were wondering)!

I never saw her again, except on TV, and her mom and brother sooned moved and I never had contact again with them.

I remember me and another neighborhood friend held her brother down and took his pants off, and threw them in the street in front of the house. He had to run outside in his underwear and get them, which , of course, we laughed our asses off to.

I wasn't aware of her homophobia back then. She was just a famous singer, and I think she had some bit parts in acting.

12. I had no idea who she was
I posted on here once asking who the hell she was, I had never heard of her. I was born in 1979 so I was clueless. Still, this is pie i the face shot is how she'll be remembered. I'm surprised she is not around continuing her hate with Ann Coulter or Glen Beck. Why hasn't Fox News hired her as a 'Gay Expert" or something? Why hasn't she been a commentator on the 700 Club? I would think she would be popular with the right wing nuts today. She could write a book or even get a radio hosting job. Thats why I thought she was dead.

16. What was it, ultimately, that ended her careeer?
I don't know a lot about her apart from her ugly attitude toward gay people.

Is she the one who threw up in her mouth a little (on camera, no less) when someone described to her what a BJ was?

18. It was the boycott of Florida O J
who she was the spokesman for. She was soon fired. Her singing was already over. So what was left She certainly had no friends in NY or Hollywood, not even Nashville, I figure. So I heard in this thread about her being in Branson, Perfect. Maybe she could team up with Dennis Miller and do an Indian Casino tour (after he gets fired from "Amnesia")

21. She went down hard
didn't she. It could not have happened to a better person. I remember being in Jr. High in 68 and wondering what the fuck her problem was.

It seems she has found some payback, not enough but some. Karma Anita, it is karma that got you.
