How Obama won Iowa
I'm posting this here because it would turn GD or GDP into a :nuke:. I came across it on Jasmyne Cannick

I just love listening to our people talk sometimes, especially our elders.

The topic of conversation today between a group of grandmothers...how Senator Barack Obama won Iowa.

And I quote:

"That Oprah really helped Obama. You know them white people in Iowa love them some Oprah. They listen to everything she says."

Classic. I'm not disagreeing with them, I just thought it was a simple answer to a question that didn't need polls or analysts, just the life experience from a group of grandmothers who simply called it like they saw it. And that my friends is that.

2. He won Iowa by having the most votes.
All this speculation doesn't matter.
I'll take Obama over Hillary any day of the week.

3. I think it's rather simpler than that.
People LIKE him, and they like the message.

5. obama won Iowa because it was a caucus format instead of an individual's vote.
voters in a caucus are subject to outside influences and pressure.

7. Ummmmm....
If your theory holds true--that "voters in a caucus are subject to outside influence
and pressure" than this means that all caucus goers for Hillary, Obama, Richardson
and Edwards were all under these same pressures.

Just exactly....how do you figure that Obama supporters in these caucuses....were somehow
exposed to pressures that other candidate supporters did not experience?

This does not make one bit of sense.

11. The race card has been dealt and most were forced to 'fold' to the outside pressures.........

so that THEY were NOT falsely labeled and accused of being racist by other caucus goers. It is unfortunate the BO supporters have attempted to use this tactic to win this election; I guarantee it will NOT work!!

6. Obama's polls..
Edited on Fri Jan-11-08 02:14 AM by TwoSparkles
...didn't skyrocket after the Oprah appearances. His polls steadily trended upward
in Iowa, as the caucus date approached.

Obama ran a highly organized and very inspirational campaign in Iowa. He cross-crossed
the state, connecting with Iowans. He took questions and was incredibly accessible. His
volunteers were all over the place and their enthusiasm and kindness were infectious.

Hillary, on the other hand---ran a lackluster, closed-off campaign. She rarely answered
any questions, from Iowans or from the media. Plus, she planted questions at two different
Iowa events, and this further alienated Iowans from her.

That's why Obama won.

Oprah viewers are mainly older women. I can assure you that the 100 percent increase in Iowa
caucus participation was due to surges in all demographic groups.

Grandmothers sometimes get it wrong, but that's ok. We love them anyway.

9. OK, I'll say it ...
What does this have to do with GLBT issues?

This forum shouldn't be a 'dumping ground' because you don't want any issues in another forum.

10. Obama has been such a contentious issue with LGBTs
And I found the piece on Jasmyne Cannick (she's a black lesbian blogger), which is what made it amusing.

I didn't intend to make this a "dumping ground", merely avoid global thermonuclear war.
