Is the (DU HomePg) Spongebob article by Joy-Ann Reid supposed to be funny?
Because it wasn't. I kept waiting for the irony or sarcasm to show up, but it never came.

Can someone tell this fool that the phrase "homosexual lifestyle" went out when Anita Bryant got sent back to the Minute Maid factory? So, she's immediately concerned that her children are watching a gay icon, then breathes a sigh of relief at the end of the article and buys her kids the DVD?

If you haven't read the article, you can see it here.

I don't want to come across as touchy, but I found the tone of her article to be quasi-homophobic--"tolerant" in the worst sense of the word. I'm wondering why DU admins would post something like that here. Any ideas?

1. The "homosexual lifestyle" phrase came from the report generated
by the AFA. The article was obviously intended to show how ridiculous their position is.

2. Then it was bad writing, not intentions.
Because it falls flat as satire.

Furthermore, the phrase may be in the report, but she uses it two or three times outside of quotation marks.

3. i share your feelings.
it walked a tad close to the line for me --
gay folk have to sometimes contend with support that sometimes leaves us a queasy feeling.
this was one of those moments for me.

5. seems at the end she's saying she can buy the DVD
because it hasn't been proven that Squarepants is gay, but if it was, her children are too young to deal with it.
