Governor ready to support marriage bill?
http://www.ebar.com/news/article.php?sec=news&article=1516

The chatter began earlier this month with actor Tom Arnold, a motorcycle-riding buddy of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, telling reporters at the governor's inaugural that his friend was ready to back same-sex marriage.

John Myers with KQED's Capitol Report wrote that his "most unusual celebrity moment" at the event was running into Arnold, who said about the governor's second term: "When you're a lame duck, or whatever you call it, you can do whatever you want." When Myers asked him what he thought the governor should work on, Arnold replied, "Gay marriage. I want , and I know he feels the same way."

The Associated Press also spoke to Arnold at the swearing-in ceremonies and reported that he "predicted his friend would try bold things in his second term, perhaps even supporting gay marriage." The story quotes Arnold as saying, "He's going to do a lot of things that are like that and better."

Log Cabin California Director James Vaughn , recently returned from a Hawaii vacation, told the Bay Area Reporter Monday, January 22 that he had not heard of Arnold's comments but that they mirror what he has been hearing from sources inside Schwarzenegger's administration.

5. Arnold may legalize gay marriage, but remember: He is a Republicker. That means...
that Halliburton will get a no-bid contract to administer all gay marriage licenses and to cater all their weddings. It also means that only rich people will be able to afford gay marriage, and you will need to club a baby seal to death to get a gay marriage license.

That's how The Republick Party does things.

7. There is no such things as a "moderate" Republicker. Period.

A Republicker who doesn't hate gays is like a Nazi who doesn't hate Gypsies.

Do we really want to set our standards for what is socially acceptable so low?

Comparisons of liberal vs. moderate Republicans

John Nichols, a correspondent for The Nation (a left-leaning political magazine) argued in a 2004 article <8>that "Using the measures that progressives might reasonably apply to define a liberal... it is possible to point to just one senator, Rhode Island's Lincoln Chafee, and two members of the House, New York's Amo Houghton and Iowa's Jim Leach... A somewhat larger circle clings to the moderate GOP mantras of a Gerald Ford or a Richard Lugar, chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, but they are fading fast as a force in Congress."

It should be noted that the three Republican congressmen whom Nichols considered liberal-Chafee, Houghton, and Leach-are out of office. Chafee and Leach were defeated in the 2006 elections, whereas Houghton did not stand for reelection in 2004.

While Delaware representative Mike Castle claims that there are 40-45 moderate Republicans in the House, Nichols remarks, "That's actually a bit of a stretch — either of the numbers or of the definition of a 'moderate'."

Weren't you arguing in favor of nuclear power in the environment forum? Now you're here in GLBT arguing that "pukes are people, too"? You may want to continue looking for the "right" message board.
