Man on trial for gay bashing

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. Attorneys defending a man charged with killing a gay man and stuffing his body in a suitcase say their client was trying to survive a "perverted sexual advance."

Twenty-three year-old Joshua Cottrell faces the possibility of the death penalty if he is convicted of murdering Richie Phillips. He is also charged with robbery and tampering with evidence.

Fishermen found Phillips remains in the suitcase floating in a Breckinridge County, Kentucky, lake in June of 2003.

Prosecutors contend Cottrell lured Phillips to a motel room and killed him because he did not like gay people.

4. Historically, this has been such an easy excuse that,

no matter how transparent it is, it still works. The "Gay Panic" defense is ridiculous. I can't stand it hearing yet another use of it.
